TBonez! Man I really like the striping/frame thing! I've never seen that technique before. I'm going to give that a try myself.

Pinstriped Cat! What an idea! Never been much of a feline fan - but what would you do with a ceramic cat! Cool stuff this week. Thanks to everyone for posting.

I don't know if I posted this one, but It's one of the many illustrations I'm considering for our shirts. A local shop offered me some money for the design... so I don't know...

This is something I put together awhile ago using a 1/25 scale model and some clay. It was my first attempt at moldmaking and resin casting.

I poured silcone rubber over it to make a mold, then poured resin and bronze powder in the mold for what is called "cold cast bonze".

The pics show some pinholes - it looks much better in person, and it looks and feels like real bronze - it is pretty heavy. A quick polish with fine steel wool brings up a gloss.

I can also pour hydrostone, plaster or regular resin in the same mold and detail the castings with paint.

    Hi Guys:

Seems there is great interest in my 32 Ford Roadster casting!

I will get the rubber mold out and figure out a fair price and get back to all who are interested.

    Thanks! - AB

As long as this is a thread dedicated to art work, I''ve got a related question. I already do pinstriping (mostly with a sword striper brush), but I need to work on my lettering ability. I'd like to know what you guys would recommend on what brushes I should get. A variety pack if you will. If you were to pick out say 5 to 10 different brushes for lettering, what would I need? I've ordered a couple books on lettering, but I'd be open to more recommendations for alphabets, numbers, letter construction etc.

    Well - here's a half assed answer:

You should use whatever feels good to you. But to answer your question with a one answer blanket statement would be false.

It really depends on what you're lettering - how large the copy is and what kind of fonts you are going to use....

The larger brushes are made to cover quickly - so the paint won't dry too fast on you and you end up with a bunch of dry-brush marks.

The smaller (and longer) lettering brushes hold lot's of paint (like a striper) and lets you do a few more "loose" strokes. Like cursive copy (the old stand-by -> name under the window openings).

I'd buy a lettering set that has a mish-mash mix - then you can play around a bit.

That's the best I can do man....

  25. I did this last week, in Ohio.

Start off with a couple different sized lettering quills..(you dont have to have every size)... a couple diff.sizes of lettering flats and a couple sizes of liners....I use Dick Blick Eclipse brushes for most of my lettering...cheap and good...i have a couple extras of the smaller sizes that i cut in half to do small text like what you see on show cards ...I used the same brush for the whole "JALOPY" job that i posted earlier..as long as you are running a good brush and using a reducer to thin your paint you shouldnt have any problem with stroke marks on the larger size lettering jobs when using a smaller brush for filling.. I have a 1/2 and 3/8 flat that i rarely use unless im doing big numbers or letters...hope this helps..Rollie is a lettering beast! he can tell ya what you need to hear...

Everybody gets comfortable using something different , lately all I've been using are a few different sizes of Mack series 189's . I've got some $30. brushes, and I've got some $2 brushes and they all work in 1 situation or another !
