I'm wrestling with my first experience with barbed fittings on my remote oil filter. I cannot get the oil line, (1/2" 250 psi.) to seat past the first barb. I've oiled both fitting and line, and the only time I got one to seat was standing at the parts counter. . Any help or advice greatly appreciated!

I use boiling water. I have a tin can in the garage that I fill 2/3 of the way with water, then heat it with a propane torch. When the water starts to boil put the hose in the water and leave it there for a minute or so. Clamp the hose barb in a vice, and lubricate it. Pull the hose out of the boiling water and push it on the barb. It works a little better if the hose barb is horizontal in the vice. You can push with more effort with the barb in that direction. I have also used liquid soap as a lubricant, but you've got to be sure the hose is washed out well afterward. Get the hose hot, and it will push right on...

Aeroquip hose lube, along with a heat gun, also works great when ***embling socketless/push-on hose and fittings. As stated above, placing the fittings in a vice is almost a must. :)

ditto on heat... that black plastic 1.5" water pipe wants you to heat it directly with a propane torch to slide it onto the barbed fitting...

You can lay the end of the hose on a flat surface and " warm it up" as we used to say with the flat end of a ball peen hammer while slowly rolling it on the surface....it will temporarily strech the rubber long enough to push it home. OIT a**** old time diesel mechanics.

Used the KY on another project. Hot water and lube worked fine!
