  2. "49ratfink said: no cars in this photo, but this is Fremont Drag strip around 1960. they raced boats in the circle to the right, and to the left was an airport"

I find that so hilarious. What can I say - it's Sunday morning.

I bought a lot of milkshakes there. I worked right across the street at King Arthur Toyota in the 1970's. lived in Fremont for 36 years.

Thanks for that picture, I've saved it. That is exactly how it looked when I started my apprenticeship there. It was Morrisons then, round about 1962.

  8. Can anyone tell what car Jim Morrison is driving here? (And no, it is not his Mustang, he crashed it 1/2 years earlier)

you can find that hilarious all you want. the Fremont Dragstrip website thinks otherwise.

Jim Guthrie The drag boat lake was drained just before I was hired there. The drag boat association quit using the lake after a boat named "The Purple People Eater" went off of the end and landed in the parking lot on top of some cars. The drag boat association deemed it was too short for further drag racing. The lake was drained and was leased out to the Palo Alto motorcycle club. They made a TT course in it. It later became part of the oval track of Baylands Raceway.
