I have a 47 chev with a 250 inline 6 with automatic ****** don't seem to be able to fit starter in bolts don't align, I believe flex plate is a 14 inch can I get a starter at the bone yard that will fit? I am 63 years old and a heart transplant patient so this care is a challenge but got to keep on trucking!

The year of your engine and type of trans will determine the starter you need. Does it bolt to the block or trans housing? Gary

That starter should bolt to the block... No provision on the bellhousing.

There are 2 starter types depending on 153 tooth or 168 tooth flywheel. [IMG]

If it looks like this which is for a 67 Camaro it indeed is a standard trans starter. [IMG]

168 tooth ring gear is 14.096 diameter and takes the staggered bolt pattern starter.
153 tooth ring gear is 12.75 in diameter and takes the straight across bolt pattern starter.
If you have the starter for the smaller ring gear and that is what most applications call for (the one with straight across bolt holes) it isn't going to work with the 14 inch ring gear.
The other way around with the staggered pattern starter and the small ring gear the starter goes in place easy enough but won't make contact with the ring gear except maybe just catching the tip of the ring gear tooth.

  9. By 67 sticks and automatics both used the block mount starter. That 3 bolt starter is much earlier bell housing mount.

Trucks with standard shift used or at least some used the cast iron
3815891 Bell housing up though 67 at least that took the three bolt starter that bolted to the bellhousing.

Now the question is. Did you get it fixed yet Rufusloco?
