Depends on your location and what you want and who is doing it. Not a 32 ,but a guy did my Morris for $85.00 at a car show in Florida. He did the trunk ,all fenders, roof sail panels hood and around the door handles . Took him less than an hour to do the whole car.
Depends on your striper and your relationship with that striper as well as dedign/style. I have had a popular striper I know qoute me many hundreds for a full car depending on how elaborate but reduce it to hundred or so if I let him do it at a show to draw business. He has semi-retired now and only works for upscale clients who can afford the bucks to get him out to work. I have had others do simple lettering or add a flourish as low as fifty and up to much more. They all have specialties and prices vary artist to artist. Shop around. Ask questions, check their portfolio of previous work and be prepared to give detailed instructions on design or give a general guidance on your idea and freedom that lets them express their talents. The latter is, in my experience, more affordable and gets the best results. Good luck and post pics once done.
If you find a guy to do a simple stripe at a show you should be able to get it done for $100 or less. If you want him to come to your house you will need to cover travel time. Most stripers are artists and have a temperament to match. If he is working a show he wants to work or needs the money.
Lot's of great feedback. I'll add that you should study the local cars and pinstriping work done. Pick a favorite or two and truly be a fan of their work. A couple hundred bucks difference shouldn't be a factor by the time you have a car built up to the point of being ready for stripes. If you get referred to the artist by one of his clients the striper may be more receptive. Some thrive in the fairgrounds spotlight. Others not so much. Last vehicle I had done was by a guy that only striped on Saturdays at his paint shop while it was closed. Drop it off Friday PM, pick it up Sat afternoon. He goes in solo, locks the doors, cranks oldies tunes and has at it. I asked for a double line pulled down the beltline and told him other than that, "he was the artist, knew better than me and had a blank canvas". He hooked me up with some great work at a great price and said he really enjoyed doing the work.
Every post above is dead-on with their advice! Your cost will depend on what you want....single color or multiple, beltline or accents, old school or scrolls, lettering or not. Look around at shows and online, take photos or save pics of work/artists you like. Once you nail down your favorite style, you can start your artist search. I pinstripe to feed my hot rod/motorcycle/bicycle addictions. I'm not afraid to barter for parts/services, but I'm not a pro either! And I'm not proficient with all styles. I won't take a job I can't pull off well...I'll refer you to someone before I'll take your money for a sub-par job. As far as references, HotRodJen is not far from you (Hummelstown) and she is one of the best out there!! Google her or check her out here on the HAMB (@metalhotrodgirl)! You won't be disappointed!!!
Depends on what you want --a simple stripe or a car that looks like someone painted the whole thing with a very small brush
Yup. What they all said. How much, how detailed, whats your market like, how skilled is your pinhead. I don't wet a brush for less than 20. and it just goes up from there
I'll stripe it for a dollar. But you won't like it. @dreracecar just for grins and something that I know you can appreciate. When I was little Tommy the Greek striped a car for a friend of his and I got to watch (silent poetry). When he was done he told the guy that'll be 7 bucks (which I now know was a token price). Two things really stand out from that encounter, one is that at the time I thought that 7 bucks was a lot of money and the other is that I remember thinking to myself that The Greek was a funny last name. Ok the real question her has already been answered, but I just could not resist telling my little story.
yep, can get a average simple stripe for $100 - like getting ink, you want someone with true talent for the style that you like - someone creative enough to make it special for you - yet, someone that listens to you - take your time - if expensive can always have part done at a time
That's really a wide open question. Somewhere between $100 and $10,000. Seriously just depends what you want how good you want it. I just had mine done last summer, took him two full days I'm extremely happy with the results and cost approximately $500.
My neighbor is restoring a '35 Packard limo and they flew in a striper from SoCal and with expenses, on the plus side of a grand.
From what I've seen, if you hover over them the price goes up with a lot of them that stripe cars at shows. Never had a rig with a paint job good enough to want to stripe it yet. I agree 100% on one thing. Do your research and study the work on other folks rides and when you see some you like ask the owner who did it and when you get the same answer from several owners of cars with stripe work you like you found your striper.
Ya'll probably have heard of a guy from Atlanta who went by the name of "Top Hat". (He's p***ed away now.) When I first met him years ago at a show, I asked him how much to stripe a car and his little jingle was always... 15, 20, 25, 75, 100, 150, 200! How much do you want to spend? And the guy would look in his pocket and say, "I have about 100 to spend." He'd say, "Fine, for a hundred, I'll do something nice on each side, something on the front and something on the back, two colors. OK..." The next guy would come along and ask, "How much to stripe my car?" and his pat answer would always be 15, 20, 25, 75, 100, 150, 200... The guy would look in his pocket and say, "I have about 200 to spend." He'd say, "Fine, for two hundred I'll do something nice on both sides, something on the front and something on the back, two colors. OK..." So, one day I questioned his technique and he said, "We'll, as long as the movie is playing, you might as well fill the seats!" I would just laugh and shake my head!
Well in the Houston area there was two super strippers. One would do half a car and ask for money so her could buy more paint...well you know the rest! Lando Reynolds and Ray Milburn!
As mentioned, its the same question on tats,,, find an style and artist you like, check their 'book' Then work out a price,,, cheaper is not better, my wife is a stripper.
