Technical "universal" brake booster cross reference??

every suppler sells a universal brake booster, single or dual diaphragm.

What are these based on?
Can I cross reference to a parts store item like at NAPA?

I bought a universal one from Pirate Jacks. They have a variety of sizes, single or dual for better prices. Not trying to sell them here but call them up. I called them with a tech question and they were very helpful.
