I'm trying to date this photo. I believe it's circa 1947-1950, no earlier, no later. I'm hoping the latest model car might help narrow it down. Any ideas? This is the photo, and here's a high res version.
First two are '40 Chevys, the '49 Merc, a '49 Plymouth, what appears to be a '49 Lincoln Cosmopolitan, the next one I can't tell but if forced to guess I'd say a Muntz, then a '46-48 Chevy... The very last one on the right is too far to tell.
I would say '40 Chevy, '40 Chevy, '49 Mercury, '50 Plymouth, 49/50 Lincoln, 48ish Packard, 47/48 Chevy and can't see much of the blue car in the far distance but it could be another '40 Chevy again.
I'm surprised to see a lot of 49/50 guesses here, I thought the photo might be on the other end of the range. Thanks everyone!
The 1949 Plymouth had more horizontal bars than the 1950. I believe the 4th car back to be a 1950 Plymouth.
What dates the picture is the number of men wearing brimmed hats. No one does that anymore, do they? Just baseball caps and Stetsons now.
I think Reman is right about the '39, at first glance it looked like it had grilles that extend into the fenders but looking again I think that's just shadows.
I disagree......the '39 body was was very much like the '37/'38 and that car is definitely 'rounder', like a '40, than the '39 shape. '39 also had 'bullet' taillights up on the rear quarter. Close inspection reveals every detail is the same as the first car, which is a '40. Ray
Who is the "hoodlum" walking across the street with the rolled up bluejeans and no hat??? Newest car there is a 50 Plymouth.
Not what you asked for, but it appears to be Las Vegas. They had the Eldorado Club, Palace Theatre, and Wimpys Drive In, all visible in that picture, and all in that era. I googled movie posters (on the [Pal]ace Theatre Coming billboard) from all those years but struck out.
