Hello Edsel gurus , need advise on the upper windshield and rear window upper trim, do they have a piping seal between them and the roof, also does the windshield upper trim have any retaining clips as well as the screw at either end.
When i got the car all the trim had been removed along with any clips that have been lost, I have managed to match some with fasteners stocked over here in the UK but overs I am having to make
If anybody have got any photos or a parts list it would be much appreciated
No doubt I will be asking more questions as the rebuild goes on ( the problems with putting back together something you have not stripped yourself )

    Many thanks
    Dave

Your Edsel should have a gasket that the windshield goes into. The gasket goes around the windshield opening in the body. The bottom piece of trim goes in with the gasket. The top piece has 4 clips (impossible to get even in the US) and 1 screw on each end. The 2 side trim pieces go on last. I did manage to find 4 top trim clips used, there are no new ones available and they are unique to the Ford and Edsel. This is the best information I have right now. I attached a screen shot of my rough draft CAD drawing I started a while back.

In each case, when trying to find Edsel parts, also search for Ford or Mercury. They are interchangeable. Unless it's a sheetmetal, trim or interior part.

Hi Bob thanks, i will try work out something from your drawing , looks like I will have to make some from thin stainless steel sheet, my windshield is fitted in the car along with the lower trim
I am still tempted to put a thin rubber U section on the trim where it contacts with the roof to rubbing or rattling

It clips in tight up top once it clicks into the clips and anything you add may trap water. Mine does not rattle since the trim does rest on the gasket. The 2 outside clips have a slight curvature to them to match the trim shape. I would cut some samples out of an old pizza box before going to metal. Most of the old ones I saw were rusted badly, that's why they are scarce. The next time I have my trim off I'll complete my CAD drawing and make some from stainless steel, .040 to .062 (1mm to 1.5mm) should work.

Don't try to remove the lower trim, you'll destroy it before it comes out.
