With your tool box you should have a pair of thin metal strips.
About 1/2" wide X about 6" long with a 90 degree bend at one end about a 1/2" long.
These strips insert behind the drawer slides with the drawer pulled out as shown.
Insert the strips, then close the drawer, pull the drawer open holding the strips against the end of the slides. The drawer will be free.
If you don't have the strips, maybe hacksaw blades will work.

Edit: we have pics. Not great, but an idea.

That's nice the snap-on guy can get you the special tool, mine just handed me a bunch and said hang on to these, the tool is a piece of thin sheet metal about .035 thick, about 3/8ths wide and 4 inches long, you slide it between the drawer and the guide as you slide the drawer out , its easier with two but I have used only one
also the tool has a slight bend at one end about 20 degrees for an inch to hang onto, this is from memory
so don't hold me to it, a valve lash feeler might work.

yup. what 42merc said. I got some of those "special" tools, really any thin metal strip that will fit in the groove behind the slide will do. Hacksaw blade is a good idea if it's narrow enough.

Funny how when you step into those Snap-on trucks your wallet becomes so light it practically floats right out of your pocket.:D:(

It appears the levers work in the same way as those slider bars that remove car stereos from their metal mounting cases. Good info - I've been wondering the same thing for years, as I got my tool box second hand and it didn't come with the release levers. Gary
