Hey guys. I'm trying to clean up my garage a bit & by doing so I've tried to sell some old car parts on EBay. I've listed them multiple times with no bidders & very little interest. For the most part it's nothing exciting & some of the stuff is broken but I'm sure to the right guy could be repaired. Some of the things I have are from a 1950 Buick
    -exhaust manifold (broken in half)
    -intake manifold( has cracks)
-Exhaust valve body (missing the counter weight)
I also have a bunch of random little ****. Not all Buick stuff.
I know there's guys that have the ability to fix this stuff & I know it's not like you can just go down to the store & buy another one. Once I throw it in the trash it's gone forever. Is it worth holding on to this stuff? Should I just **** can it? Are there people out there I can give it too(I'll ship it at a cost to whomever wants it) I basically just want this stuff gone, but don't have the heart to just dump it. Let me know what you guys do & what you all think. Thanks.

I wouldn't have any remorse dumping those particular items into the s**** bin. It's great that you want to save stuff for the future, but certain things just aren't worth saving. Your space and effort would be much better spent elsewhere.

I believe I've given away more things than I sold.
    Try that.

if rare parts someone might want to try to save - but, basics in poor condition OK to dump - I try to sell on eBay, craigslist, swap meets, etc - some stuff never does sell - near end of swap I will make up a pile of non-selling stuff for Free - whats left goes in trash can - planning to move to smaller place

I'm getting there too. Try pay it forward.

I've got at least 12 sets of 882 small block Chevy heads, 70's smoggers. At least a few sets have valves sitting nice and high and tight guides, could be a lap, clean up and run set of heads. No one wants them, hate to s**** them, tired of moving them around.

    This summer they're gone.

Place a free ad in Craigslist 'auto parts' section. Just maybe a Buick guy will see it and actually want/need the parts.
If you place it on Craigslist 'free' section a (heartless) metal s****per may take it off your hands but usually there has to be quite a load of metal weight for it to be worth their while. It'll at least get recycled as s**** metal instead of going to the local landfill in your trash.

On the Buick pieces that need quite a bit of work I'd think there are still enough good ones around that don't need work that guys aren't interested in them because of the work.

On the 882 smogger heads Indyjps has. I'd guess that the Chicago area has some cylinder head rebuild shops that buy cores where they could bring a few bucks and usually a bit more if you want to wait until they tear them down and inspect them. I worked in a local cylinderhead/engine exchange shop that did that and still does as far as I know.. It isn't much money but more than s****

I've got three sheds full of stuff that need to go once the parts for the current projects are sorted out of them and put in their proper storage spots. Some of it I haven't seen for 35 years as stuff is piled on top of it. A lot of that is probably in the "needs some work" category and a lot of it is in the "might need it someday" category including probably 50 fan and crank pulleys off who knows what that I have tossed in there over the years. I may make one swap meet trip with a bunch of it priced low enough that some people might buy it for art projects or some of it may end up as art projects.

S**** prices are going back up. I got rid of about 50,000 lbs of old car parts nobody wants, about 6-7 years ago. I regret selling a couple of those parts, but overall it was the right thing to do.

As much as I'd like to save the hobby, it just gets overwhelming when you have so much stuff.

Place said items near the curb with a sign that reads.." Rare car parts..$100 FIRM". Wait 10 minutes and your issue has subsided.

A "FREE" table at a swap often clears stuff someone can use. Anything left at the end of the swap is s****.
If you don't want to take the effort to s**** it yourself, set it by the street in front of your house, it will be gone.
I have a growing pile of "What the heck was I keeping this for?" that will become a load of s**** soon. I've taken care of this stuff for years, now its someone elses turn, if no one else wants to care for it, let it be recycled into something useful. Gene

Either post the parts on the "pay it forward" thread that PorkN****** mentions for a cl***ified ad on HAMB offering them for free. Unless the broken parts are rare, I'd dump them. Good luck!
PS. If anyone I know needs a part I have, it is theirs for free. I'm starting to thin the collection through eBay or giving it away.

  16. LOL I'll take those Enderle barn Doors. :D

I think that most people know if you need a flidget or a flange they are welcome to come dig. You just never know what you're going to find.

Those busted manifolds might be useful to someone making a multi carb manifold out of a stocker, or split exhaust manifold out of a stocker. The value would be very little. I would give them to anyone who could use them. If no takers in a reasonable time you can throw them in the s**** with a clear conscience.

Turn it into yard art . Make some weird artsy looking thing out of it and somebody will be all over it at a good price.
Then you can call yourself an artist instead of a junk hoarder.

  21. I had some model A transmissions I listed on ebay and C/L. Kept lowering the price but no interest. Finally listed them on C/L for free and still no interest. Threw them in the s**** iron pile and one day a guy spots them and offers me $25 for them. Sold!

That there's funny. One of the neighbors wrapped up his recycling over the winter and left it on the front porch in a UPS box, didn't last a day.

eBay used to be a great place to get rid of old parts 10-12 years ago. I sold parts on there I had no use for and was literally going to throw away. Not any more. I've resisted parts several times with no takers. I to can't figure what happened to the used parts market.

you gotta lower the price...or have something desirable. Some parts still sell for good money, but the market changes over time.

Jim, not sure it's the items or the prices. I've lowered the prices to being almost give away and they still don't move. Several years ago everything you'd list sold. Seems as if for some reason the market has changed.

Could be. Now that we've had ebay available for 20 years, we finally bought all the strange, rare things we could ever want.

I went to a swap meet last weekend. With a light load. And the express desire to sell. I took every offer, and sold everything. Market value was whatever i could get.

When I closed my shop I sold of some stuff, kept some to sell and s****ped the rest. I sold about half the stuff I took to Decatur swap meet last year, listed some on eBay. I still have a bunch left! Some old 50's Buick stuff, 40's Chevy stuff. A bunch of Mopar and Mustang parts. Still trying to sell it!!
