Trying to locate a company to transport a V8 engine from Iowa to SW Florida. Can anyone recommend a transport company or share your experience if you have shipped an engine.

    Thanks in advance ...

I just got a crate motor from Karl Chevrolet in Des Moines Iowa. Crate had a fed ex tag on it but I picked it up at a Mid West Motor Express Depot, so somewhere it transfered shipping companys. I guess I would look into fed ex freight unless theres a company that gos between Iowa and Florida.

Any truck freight company will do this.... Usually one with a terminal close to a major airport the prices come down. Should be about 150- 200 bux to ship if palatalized or crated

I had Old Reliable Trucking in St. Joseph ship my flathead engine and trans; they were real good about it. There should be one in your neighborhood.

  6. Fastenal ...

If the Seller will drain all fluids - crate it to meet their drop shipping reaquirements - you can insure it and get it shipped for a reasonable price from store to store.

The Seller needs to drop it off at a Fastenal & you need to pick it up at another.

Engines Direct Shipping in Az send me emails all the time. Dry engine must be on a pallet and covered per there instructions. Fastenal is by far the least expensive.

    Another vote for Fastenal
    Go to their homepage
Top right side "services"- scroll down to:
    3pl shipping
You need outside dimensions of crate, weight, content, and location of Fastenal nearest you and destination to get a free shipping quote. It's pretty simple.

Only drawback is it ships indirectly- it may be off and on loaded several times in route to offset cost of running a partially filled truck

    Good luck with it

Not all Fastenal locations have forklifts, at least the ones near me. Check to make sure the originating has one as well as the receiving store.

Right on target 51504bat.. I got a quote from Fastenal and they will ship the crated engine the 1400 + miles for around $300. Based off my best guesstimate of 700 lbs on a boxed standard pallet. They will not deliver to the Fastenal in my town but the next city over.
