Can anyone tell me what the volumetric efficiency is of a stockish Model B flat 4 should be? Compression ratio 6.8:1 Sent from my 9001X using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Im going to guess he means flat head inline four : Where: VE = Volumetric Efficiency (%) AVF = Actual volumetric flow rate (ft3/minute) TAF = Theoretical air flow rate (ft3/minute)
It's probably pretty good at low rpm, and falls off as rpm increases. But you didn't specify what RPM you're interested in....????
Flathead 4 cylinder. Why would anyone be talking about VW's on this forum? Sent from my 9001X using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Good natured jab at you. Your post is titled "Flat Four". Model "B"s have a flathead, inline 4 cylinder engine, as you obviously know. VWs, Corvairs, Subarus, etc. have flat fours and sixes. You probably refer to them as "boxers" in your part of the world. Silly semantics
Yes we almost speak the same and language. Just needed some information as I'm making new inlet manifold for my sons Model A. Because of his age he can't get insurance with a V8 engine so sticking with a flathead 4 cylinder and trying our best to get the most from it terms of horse power.
its a simple manifold if your making it you wont go far wrong , just make nice curves at the ends of the log.......
Single at the moment, but I dual coming later. Need it done and for next weekend. Vintage nationals at Santapod, UK
Calling it a flat motor stamps you as a noob. It's a flathead. Or more properly a sidevalve in England.
Not really a noob, I just haven't posted before. Pics are of my old 46 on Pendine beach, the 59a flattish I built with Isky cam best flowing heads Ford produced (took ten years to find) and 3 94s (not progressive) good for 100mph. And as it was stock when I first got it. Also my old 1930 A. Had 390ci Cad motor when I built it with 2 97s,good for high 13s. And my kids at the drags last year.
I must apologise before I upset anyone else. The flattish should be flattie.! Productive text is a killer, I will have to proof read before I hit send Sent from my 9001X using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Good looking set up Darren Looking forward to seeing it run at the weekend Check the banger dyno run results on that other forum for info on vol efficiency Cheers Juggs
Thanks Andrew, can't take credit for it all Sidney did help. Let's hope it works. I'll check out that banger report. Sent from my 9001X using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Apart from that Banger report on the "other forum" , there is the monthly Banger Meet here on the HAMB. This month's one....... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...t-sun-shining-on-all-4.1060352/#post-12042456 If you see the first page has links to many previous editions of the monthly thread. and many many other informative Banger pages. Thanks for that. I will definitely check it out. Already have the book, a most inspiring read. Sent from my 9001X using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
