Was't going to show this one yet. But I am always inspired by the early stages of builds that you guys show in here. So here is the channneled deuce roadster I mentioned briefly last week. It is based on the Road legends fully fendered roadster, which is in fact a derivative of their 3window. So the body need s afair amount of work to get it to look like a roadster body should. This model is being built as a lose copy of a roadster built on the west coast here in Australia; owned and built by a guy called Bill Marshall. I have since met Bill and have a number of shots of his roadster which I will post at a later date. Got nothing done on the black '34 roadster this week, it has all been body work on this one. You got to love bare metal, even if it is only in 1/18th scale!! Geoff aka whodaky
I don't think I have shown this one before. It is a quicky I did a number of years ago. Again this 1/18th diecast is based on the same Road Legends roadster as I am building the model above from. This particular model is based losely on the Neal East roadster that appeared on the first issue of rod and Custonm in the big format. I won't go into details of what I have done on this one, but it is highly modifed. Geoff aka whodaky
The work you do with those diecasts is awesome. I don't have the patience for working with the metal, wish I did! My latest project....Plowboy made me do it. '59 Impala quarters and a '29 cowl.
I love that gold roadster! I finally got to building a model of my dad's old '47 custom. I'm still forming the headlights and molding the fenders and seams. I'll be putting skirts on it like it had before my dad had it. I've got some spotlights, caddy grille, ect... It's gonna be dark metallic blue like original, with a dark red and off white interior. I can't decide what motor to run. Originally it ran a hot flatty. I have a flatty but not much speed equipment. Later it ran a caddy. When my dad had it he ran a punched out dual quad 283. I have both of these, but I'm leaning tward the caddy. Any opinions? I'm making a custom steering wheel like the 50 monterey wheel. I made the rear bumper guard like it had on it and it's ready to go. I'm waiting on some sombrero's and wide whites to come in the mail. The last pic is the era I'm going for.
cool models. Are there any kits out there 1/24 that come with traditioanl mills? Something other than flatheads and sbc. Any cadillac motors? Rockets or nailheads?
Revell makes motor kits for about $4. There's a 421 poncho, a caddy, a 283 chevy, and a 427 ford. They can be built as mild street or full race. That's the caddy and chevy I have for the '47. Maybe I'll build both and make the motors swap
There's those Caddy kits, Nailheads are out there but kinda tough to find, and there are kits with Fire Power, Red Ram and Fire Dome Hemi's. Ive never seen a Olds Rocket. Anyone know if any kit ever came with one? Would be sweet especially if it actually had "Oldsmobile ROCKET" cast in the valve covers or as a decal. No new builds here for a while...Im real buisy and all my paints dried up -Dean
Who - Good stuff as always. The Neal East roadster is a great one to model...just cl***ic. Fidge - Sick, and ya beat me to it. I was gonna use a resin '60 Buick...still might, but havin' too much fun with 1/8 scale. Uh oh. Don't make me put those two thoughts together...that could lead to a lot of scratchbuilding. AD - Good on ya. I like seein' builds that have special meaning to the builder. Stone - Grab yerself a Revell Beatnik Bandit kit...lots o' goodies. The Parts Pack engines AD mentioned are great too. They have multi-piece blocks that need a decent amount of cleanup, but they build up nice. Same with the BB kit but it's an Olds. Revell Anglia is another good one to scavenge from. Olson
Here's my contribution for the week. Took a quick break from the rpu to make this front spring for my next build ('23 T). All br***. Just had to get it out of my system. Still gonna use the kit axle, but will be doin' a lot more br*** work for that build. Still need to fine tune the shackles, and it looks a little loose in the pics, but it tightens up real nice when there's some weight on it. I've got half the body stuff painted for the rpu...should have some good pics for ya next weekend. Olson
Dave go for it. I've tried several times to make them like this in 1/25, but that blasted eye always got me. MUCH easier in 1/8. I'm totally diggin' the modified. Olson
Here's another question for the gurus. I want my carson top pure white. What should I use to give the right look that won't fill in the grain pattern? Semi gloss white, or even white primer I was thinking?
Here is a quick diecast mod that I did. The red/red primer Jada car has a front bumper and headlight detail that is very similar to my actual car. So with paint, some chrome tape, and a new grill, it looks closer to my car.
I'm no guru...but... Tamiya or Testors synthetic lacquer is what ya want. Super thin, and bright white. It's totally flat, but if ya rub it with yer digits it'll take on the look yer after. Stone - I use mostly rattle cans. The above synthetics to be specific. I have a dual action airbrush, but I usually only use it for shooting metal finishes. Olson
Geoff Stop it ya killin me I'm not looking any more. I keep hearing my model stock pile calling to me when I'm in the shed.....I need to finish that 1 to 1 project I'm working on. KOOL **** ..... Scottie.
Geoff, I agree with Buick57, "stop it ya killin me", too! I ain't got big hands at all, but they refuse to work on anything smaller than a full sized car. I'm in the midst of putting together a Testor's 1/6 scale Hemi and some of the parts on this critter are causing me somach acid they are so small! Of course, the instructions, while generally good, have some real serious flaws. AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!! As Ive said previously, I love your stuff - keep it coming, especially for all of the rest of us who just wish we had half your talent. John
Damn Cool ! ...But you're not the only modeler that Plowboy inspired these days... '29 Ford Pick up with '58 Tbird back... And a '66 Tbird cut everywhere I was thinking of adding a Beatnick bandit bubble cause I'm also inspired by Orbitron for this one...
I've got the body for you. Free for the picking up in Lubbock. No top but good quarters, hood, fenders and deck liid. Please come get it. Dan
I love that idea.....awesome. Definately go with the bubble top. I'm really starting to like these show rods. Fun to build too.
Man everything Looks Killer this Week!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't touched plastic in months been busy building 1:1 for a change :O( keith
Ok i started this a while back and proudly stole the idea from plowboy :O) It's a 31 ford truck with a 57 t-bird **** end. It's stalled for now i started with a trashed t-bird body and it's a mess. Should have started with a better bird body. Oh yeah it's 1/16 scale keith
