1958 GMC 1/2ton truck GMC302 engine Edelbrock 1406 4barrel carb. Clifford Intake/Clifford Headers. Looking for advice how others ran their throttle cable set ups. Would like to keep stock pedal , if possible. Show me with pictures how you did yours... Thanks
Mine is a offy intake. I used steel transmission cooler line. a bit of flare on the ends pulled the cable from some stock unit greased it with axle grease. Fast & easy to make. Kinda crude looking but it works perfectly
you simply shift to neutral and turn of the ignition if your throttle fails. Millions of vehicles came from the factory with only one throttle spring.
Not trying to win any beauty contest. just have a throttle system that actually works. Its been working trouble free for several years. idles good and has complete throttle plate opening when the pedal is mashed to the floor.
'66 Ford 7 Litre, got on freeway, rolled the throttle open, shifted into 2nd at about 45mph, hit 70 in second, went for 3rd, throttle return spring broke, throttle still WFO. Turned the key off, but even at 4000+rpm the 428 didn't make any vacuum for the power brakes. Both feet on brake pedal, lifting my **** off the seat. Still took almost a half mile to stop! Nested(one inside the other) 2 different springs after that on all my vehicles! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Should of let back off the clutch after you shut down the engine. My father bought a 66 galaxie 428 automatic brand new.I still have the engine. Also 66 fords had a pretty good emergency brake. And my pickup don't have power brakes. And a double spring would be better. There was a bunch of linkage and helm joints that came with the intake. none of it would work without binding. I had rigged a similar foot pedal and cable through tubing on a farm tractor so I could over ride the governor when I was a kid. My dad was puzzled how the skirts got broke off all four pistons.
I was thinking about using a Lokar throttle cable on a recent build until I saw the price they were asking. Way too pricey in my estimation.
There are a **** load of different style throttle cable brackets in the wrecking yards along with all lengths of cable with different ends on them. It shouldn't be that hard to modify a bracket to hold a cable where you want it to go. A little welding, a little grinding and you have a bracket that looks like it came that way from the factory on the carb.
You can run a V8 stock style accelerator linkage with rods. There are reproductions out there and cab should have holes for installation. It has a rod with a ball on the end that presses into the back of your stock pedal. The connection from the linkage to the carb can be a rod with 2 heim ends. No cable used. Otherwise trying to use a stock pedal would be tricky if you were wanting to keep the bottom pivot. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
