Picked up a '56 2 dr. sedan that has a nice frame. Don't see any damage any where and it has been sandblasted and painted. The front end suspension has been gone through. Car was running with good brakes when the PO decided to take it apart to make a g***er out of it. Bought it in an "exploded" state. What's there looks very good. I have a running '56 Crown Vic with the 292 in it. I want a 302/AOD in it. I've started building the 302 and have been thinking of setting up the sedan frame with motor, trans, all lines, new gas tank, etc. and when it's all ready, swap frames. I would then put the 2 dr. sedan body on my running complete Crown Vic ch***is to sell to try to get some of my money back. Any help appreciated. Thanks Joe.
Should work out fine, don't see any issues with doing it as both models share the same 115" wheelbase.
The thread about an AOD mentioned that the frames on a convertible and a Crown Vic may be the same, so the two door sedan will be different. No idea why, may be an X member
This frame doesn't have power steering, my car does. Will I be able to add my PS from my car onto this frame if I decide to??? Thanks Joe.
Not sure on 56 Fords, but 52/53 Mercs had the "X" on drop tops and wagons.. Not sure why a Crown would need an X
The Crown Vic is basically a 2 door sedan once you take off the chrome. Any one add an original PS unit to a '56? Thanks Joe.
Power steering will swap from one car to the other. Compare the bottom of the frames on both cars, I think I recall someone telling me that the Hardtops and Crown Vics have an extra plate of steel welded to the bottom for extra support because the bodies don't have a B pillar. First picture is a Sedan frame and the second is a Hardtop frame.
I guess that was the point I was trying to make.. Since you have both cars, can you check it out for us?
A Crown Vic is more like a 2 door Hardtop with the chrome removed, a Sedan body is similar but different.
Check EMS sheetmetals website. They list all the body mounting gussets to the rockers. I would check to see if the Vic and tudor are same part listing. Other than that and a tape measure to measure hard points. If all the same Go for it. Regards. Al
