I recently picked up a 48 prefect, the original grill is toast, but the front fenerd etc are all good. A grill for this thing will be nearly impossible to find as a 48 prefect is all alone. I was told the 48 prefect front fenders are the same as Anglia, is this true? Alsi I decided I may try and get an Anglia hood, sides and grill to replace the Prefect parts. I allways thought these were a direct swap, but recently I've been told, that to put an Anglia front on a Prefect you'll need cowl filler pieces? Well I guess I'm not seeing what I need, can any one fill me in on what I'll need to do this front end swap. Looks to me like an Anglia front should nearly bolt right up to my Prefect. What are these cowl pieces that have been mentioned? I also thought a Prefect cowl was the sames as a Thames which also carries the Anglia front sheet metal. Any info or pics would be greatly appreciated. Later, Rusty.
Rusty, there is a person out there that can definitely answer your question correctly. He is TERRY OLSON and owns a business in Wisconson for last 30 yrs. called "ANGLIA- BROKERS".....google it up and you will find Terrys web site....He likely may have the prefect grill you seek as well ??? and for further Anglia help; you may wanna join up ANGLIAS group at yahoo...lots of knowledgable guys on the forum....you may even be able to scare up a grill there if you post a desire to find one. If you have trouble finding our group, shoot off an email enquiry to anglias@yahoogroups.com That will get you there for join-up ***ist... good luck, Ian
Need to see pictures ,but yes if it`s a true `48 an Anglia front end will fit . And the front fenders are the same ,just not the inner fenders. Anglia inner fenders are bolted on and Prefect`s are spot welded on them .Hope this helps, G***erman
Rod N Race Side Cowl PanelsProduct ID: E2962-63 Price $125.00 * Adapts Anglia one piece to Prefect body, pair
I seen the panels available, but I just don't see the differences in a prefect and Anglia cowl area. Hopefully I can just find a prefect grill.
The Prefect and Anglia/Thames are entirely different creatures. And NO, Prefect fenders are NOT the same as Anglia/Thames fenders. These pix will help define the differences for you. (the proof is in the puddin') Ian
why is everyone spellin perfect wrong>? we have spell check ya know! rusty, you need a couple more projects like i need a couple more bank loans!
I agree with your post on the differences in the factory sheetmetal Heres a side view of my front of my 48 prefect front. .
Prefects and pilots (predessesor before 1949) normally had running boards Anglias (populars) did not, at any time. Prefect/pilot fenders were wider at rear as a result beyond all else.
Still a bit fuzzy on my question, I have a 48 Prefect, and it's front end is all alone. It is not like many of the prefects pictured. My grill is junk, I know finding a useable one will be impossible so my options are to make one, or install an Anglia front, this is where my questions lie, not all the other differences, I am asking what all do I need to put a steel Anglia front on my car, what parts of my Prefect front will work, and what are these cowl panels I keep hearing that I need. I compared pics and an Anglia cowl and a Prefect cowl look identical to me. Later, Rusty.
pm g***erman....he knows...I have a 48 Anglia 3 bar nose and hood but it aint for sale as to the spelling of PREFECT.....this is correct...in In England they dont have a Chief of police........he is call the PREFECT of police.....so Main Man /PREFECT/Chief kinda interchangable,no **** talk to g***erman he can set you on the interchangability of parts..later on Jay

This is from Dean Kirsten's Anglia Obsolete website. Maybe a grille won't be that had to find. N*** was the American import. "During 1948-1953, the Prefect came with two different front grilles, and for that matter, completely different front sheet metal as well. The 1948 (N***) Prefect, (E93A), came with a grille that featured horizontal bars. This was the same grille that right-hand drive cars were fitted with as far back as 1939. It was a chrome-plated casting, and was rather complicated to say the least." http://www.angliaobsolete.com/
Can the (green) Anglia front sheet metal clip (cowl forward) interchange the (black) Perfect front sheet metal clip (cowl forward)? Thanks, David Hurst Precisionhotrides@gmail.com
