I'm glad you guys got a kick out of that. Here is an alternative version of Tony Lombardy's A in B&W using two different contrast levels.

You're welcome and thanks. I will try to post a few more before and afters.

Here is one that is only a before as far as cleanup of the scene goes. Too messy to be worth fixing, so you capitalize on the complexity and business of the picture. I love big mid 50's MOPARS like this, even if they are not finished.

Here's another one that I think might be better in B&W

So here is a fun little before and after.
Before - you have 3 images at different exposures, neither of which is ideal. I have only posted the one that is closest.
    LSRU 2017 OMD -1808.jpg
The final result is done by merging the 2 exposures into one, enhancing the contrast, then using 2 monochrome layers - one is actually B&W the other is toned B&W using the color of the car. Only the Cadillac emblem on the hubcap is actually in color. The hard part of this is all the detail selecting and masking needed to create the different color layers.
    LSRU 2017 OMD -1806_7_8.jpg
It is not perfect and could still probably use a few tweaks.

Of all your photos, this may be my favorite. It is really hard to bring out the details in a car that is backlit, particularly a dark car and when there are sun reflection highlights off the car. Your talents are amazing. This is an outstanding photograph, not a picture.

Thanks so much for that FlyFisher! This one indeed was a lot of work. It is essentially the same idea as the Olds immediately above it, although in this case the whole car is still in color. It took about 10 or so layers and a lot of individual area adjustments to get it this way. I've since done a few more small tweaks since the first one was posted, though you might not notice them at this size. Here are the 3 main stages. First what it looked like as shot with the exposure bias being toward the car and thus a too bright background. Next after 3 different exposures were combined with HDR software and finally the finished, at least for now, image. A lot of individual color adjustments were also done.

Thanks Dennis. An awful lot depends on what elements are in the image in the first place and how much work it is to fix them and is the time worth it for whatever the end result will be. Needless to say, I would rather get a nice, clean image in the first place if I have any control over it. I will look around and see if I can find any of your sedan that would work well that way. I can definitely come up with a cool B&W out of the ones I took at Brights in 2015 if that is what you would like to see.

Here is one that I would like to know for sure what it is. It has a Studebaker grill but the body mostly looks like a 30-31 A. I'm not sure. If anyone knows more about this car, I would love to hear more about it. I included the before on this one as well for your entertainment. This one was actually much easier than the Olds or 32 Sedan above, despite the fact that it looks like it has more done to it. I waited a long time to get a fairly people free shot of it.

    Thanks a lot tfeverfred!
Unfortunately this thread will be coming to, at least a temporary, end tonight or tomorrow morning. I still do have quite a few pictures to work on, but I'm out of time since it is now time for the next car show - the Stray Kat 500. I 'll have that thread up early next week. and will try to keep adding to this as well. I think the interest in this one has died down anyway.
