Technical 1940 Ford frame interchange ???

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by bondojunkie, Apr 30, 2017.

  1. If this has been asked and answered many times over then I apologize; but I did several searches and only came up with only half of the answer I need. In an older thread I saw that 40 Ford frames are basically the same from car to truck to convertible, etc. My question is are there other years that use the identical frame as a 40 (or pretty close)? I always assumed 39's did because the bodies look the same to me. What about 41's or 47/48's ?
There is a 1940 2 door sedan project for sale locally, but it's sitting on an s-10 chassis (GACK!). Will another year fit?
    Thanks.

'35-'40 work, as well as '41 pickup
Will have to do some adjustments for body mounts in some cases

Jim- are you the guy in Brooksville with the 40 for sale ? That would be a crazy coincidence!

My memory is that pickups and convertibles used a heavier gauge steel (.100 vs .110) or something like that.

  8. If you change the year of the frame be sure to talk with the DMV before you get too far. They may want to use the serial number on the frame to determine the year of the vehicle.
