If this has been asked and answered many times over then I apologize; but I did several searches and only came up with only half of the answer I need. In an older thread I saw that 40 Ford frames are basically the same from car to truck to convertible, etc. My question is are there other years that use the identical frame as a 40 (or pretty close)? I always assumed 39's did because the bodies look the same to me. What about 41's or 47/48's ? There is a 1940 2 door sedan project for sale locally, but it's sitting on an s-10 chassis (GACK!). Will another year fit? Thanks.
1935-1940 car frames work, and 35-41 trucks.Truck frames do not have the 4 body mount brackets on them.Hope this helps.
thanks guys! Jim- are you the guy in Brooksville with the 40 for sale ? That would be a crazy coincidence!
there a several different radiator mounts used 35-40 , not a big deal to switch my `36 is on a `40 frame
No,i am not the one with the 40 for sale...but i do have a 39 parts car and a rusty 40 frame here...along with all my other junk, haha!
My memory is that pickups and convertibles used a heavier gauge steel (.100 vs .110) or something like that.
If you change the year of the frame be sure to talk with the DMV before you get too far. They may want to use the serial number on the frame to determine the year of the vehicle. Charlie Stephens
