Hey fellas, I just came across this board and it seems right up my ally, guys who like talking about cars and showing pics of what they got going, sharing ideas etc. Anyway, I have a 1960 Olds 98 4-door that is just rotting away in my back yard. I used to drive it everyday to college, then the ****** went out, its a four speed hydramatic and it wouldnt shift out of first. So I called around and nobody in town would even work on it. Finally I found a shop that would. So it took them about a month and $1000. It lasted about 3 months then it started doing the same thing. So I pretty much got screwed over. I'm not sure the even rebuilt it or just jimmyrigged it so it would work for a little while. Well I had borrowed the money for the repair in the first place and couldnt get it towed to their shop,(plus I was young and DUMB) so I just wrote it off. Well since then I have gotten married had kids, and have MOVED THE CAR WITH ME 4 TIMES, so obviously I like the car and want to fix it, the problem being I'm not rich and dont know too much about fixing cars. So thats why Im here, for ideas and opinions.

Do any other transmissions bolt up to the 394 with adapters, etc. I think it has a four speed hydromatic. The engine needs rebuilt too, would I be better off with a different engine and trans? Please give me some feedback.

There are adapters but they aren't cheap either. Try posting this up in the general area. Welcome to the boards.
