Technical Olds 2GC carb problem

    65 Olds 425 ci engine with 2GC carb. Choke does not close - stays full open when cold. Tried adjusting thermostatic coil, but it stops firmly at half way in the interior slot. Intermediate choke rod does not travel far enough to close the choke. Have 65 Olds factory service manual but I'm still stumped. Thanks for any ideas
     
  2. Little piston in there, gummed up? Under tin plate?
    Picture would help.

    Piston is behind the interior choke plate I think. I will try some carb cleaner tomorrow. Thanks.

    Remove the cover and coil. Disconnect any external choke linkage. Now see if the choke ****erfly will close. Your path of action depends on whether or not the plate will close with this set of conditions.

    The upper body could be warped from over tightening the air cleaner wing nut.
