Hi Could anybody tell me what position the weight on the manifold should be in when in the hot position so gases go down the exhaust as opposed to heating the inlet Mine is free but is held in one position with wire , dont want all the h***le of taking it off just to find out + I dont have a manual or any photos of the flap Thanks Dave
Hi thanks for the replies , on mine the weight is wired in its most horizontal position but when i take the wire off it is spring loaded in this position when cold, if i hold the weight more vertical then let go it returns back to its original position which i thought was directing heat to the inlet and as the spring heats and expands it shuts off the flow to the inlet and directs the gases down the exhaust or am i reading this wrong The engine warms up very quickly and i can push the choke in within a few minuets also when running the carb and manifold seem too hot for my liking, the car seems to be running fine and returning around 18 MPG urban driving / commuting from cold and only doing short journeys to work including hillls which i think is pretty good for a heavy car with 2 speed auto
Update , as the flap and weight were not siezed i cut the wire that was holding the weight in one position Wow what a difference it must have been wired in the warm up position therefore restricting the gas flow, now when it warms up the weight is more vertical on its own then when it cools it returns to the horizontal position where it is spring loaded As i have just put the Edsel on the road so had no idea on the performance or what to expect only it wasnt like my avitar car which is also a straight 6 but is a lot lighter / faster and revs higher The Edsel felt lazier and very quiet despite only having 1 exhaust box, it makes scense now as it was being choked to death Now it is like my other 6 pot got a totally different exhaust note and is a hell of a lot more responsive , should be a little better on fuel now its not choked up and vaporizing the fuel (the carb also feels cooler now )
