Hello, I will be visiting the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, etc..). Are there any shops, museums, anything else related to traditional Hot Rods and vintage motorcycles I should visit?
There is a place in Wilsonvile Or. Called the world of speed museum Motorsports museum. 27490 SW 95th Avenue, Wilsonville, OR HOURS MONDAY: Closed* TUESDAY – FRIDAY: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. SATURDAY: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. SUNDAY: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. CONTACT PHONE: 503-563-6444 EMAIL: info@worldofspeed.org You can check it out on google I've never been there personally but have always wanted to go.
WAAM in Hood River Oregon. Our daughter moved from Chicago to Portland and we stumbled onto this museum on one of our road trips out west. We have actually gone back a second time on a follow up trip. They primarily have antique/vintage aircraft, but the really neat part is that they pair up vintage motorcycles and automotive engines with many of the airplanes. An example is an airplane with a Henderson 4cyl. engine retro-fit......with an original Henderson motorcycle sitting next to it. Also, Ford flathead engines in airplanes !! Since I have had some old open wheel race cars, I loved the Ranger aircraft engine in a dirt track sprint car in the car/truck section of the museum. On top of all of this, all the people responsible for the museum are really nice people......enjoy !!
These are great ideas ^^^^^ !!!! When is your visit? It started raining here in October and its scheduled to stop by July I hear. Our area has a ton of out door car fun crammed into 3 or 4 months.
Shopwise there's: In Portland, Steves Auto Restorations. Lincoln City on the central Oregon coast is Jim Meyer Racing. During the summer every Wednesday early evening is the Beaches cruise at PIR (Portland International Raceway). @Bandit Billy has the schedule.
If you like airplanes the Boeing museum is awsome. Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
May 20-21 Monroe Automotive Swap Meet. 20 miles from Seattle. Pretty big. Happens about three-four times a year. Bring the rain boots and a cup of coffee. Mingle, repeat!
Thanks everyone. I will have to check them out and bring my rain gear or scuba gear! Sounds like a lot of rain, not good for the roadster guys.
I'll second the Beaches Cruise every Wed. At PIR. The rainy season ends about July 4th. Lots of cruises. Check the Chamber of Commerce website for the communities you'll be near for local events. Over here on the dry side near Bend, OR many cruises. Just check the local calendars.
We have riots on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in Portland, also not good for Roadster guys. But you will see the best of Portland every Wednesday night at Portland International Raceway, just off the I-5 super slab in North Portland. 5 bucks at the gate, all proceeds go to charity. Opens around 4:00 pm, lasts till dusk. Over a thousand cars every week and another 100 or more Harleys. The rules are loose so anything pre 74, all vettes, all bikes, all special interest (there are a few Ferrari, Lambo and McLaren types that wander in from Lake Oswego but we ignore them ). Live band, adult beverages, BBQ, 1/8th mile bracket racing, every week through summer. The 22nd year gets under way June 7th this year. Bring a straw hat, not much shade at PIR and when it does stop raining here it gets hot quicker than anarchists can set fire to a police car. http://portlandraceway.com/?/events/upcoming_events/cruisein
As mentioned before. The World of Speed museum in Wilsonville (just south of Portland) is pretty awesome. Plenty to do during the summer here. I guess it all depends when you're driving through
