Thanks Chase. I thought that it might have been when I saw the photo as the engine package looks like the one in his back motor car but it showed up early in a search on WDIFL as the Bright Boys. I guess that Don got it wrong and the only Bright Boys double was the small block fuel car. I should have searched Leo as in addition to the rear engine car there are several photos of this car including one when he ran small blocks that I just found.

All the way from Western Australia, this is Neil Wilson in the Barry Gray owned Simca Aronde. Power came from a fuel injected 325" Dodge. The photo is from around 1969 and the track is Keith Tyler's Ravenswood Raceway at Mandurah, south of Perth.

Another shot from Western Australia's Ravenswood Raceway. Rob Birch in the Carbon Automatic backed Plymouth. The photo is from Kim Lewin, shot in 1972 and the Mopar ran 13.13 at 113.71 on this pass.

A 426 Hemi powered Cheetah (at Lions). This apricot metalflake painted car used one of the Marv Eldridge Cheetah bodies and as recently as 2008 was reported to be in Illinois after owner John Mayer (no, not the singer :) ) purchased it in San Diego. Evidently Fiberglass Trends molded some of the bodies for the Bill Thomas road race versions of the Don Edmunds designed car.

    Hey Rooman,

At last reports Keith Tyler is still alive and well. We sold Ravenswood in 2003 and reportedly has changed hands again but is still essentially intact from when it was vacated in 2000 after the Motorplex opened.
PS - Having dinner with TT in Perth on Sunday night.

Richard Petty vs The Farmer maybe - yes, this could very well be right before the Petty accident.

This has to be 1968 and that is Tom McEwen's (at one time) Tirend car in the other lane. Ironically McEwen drove Baney's cammer powered car before Snake took over.

Butch Leal's brand new A/FX Plymouth at the 1965 AHRA season opener at Beeline Dragway in Arizona. The car was so new that it still had the factory supplied funky offset steel wheels on the rear and did not yet have the iconic orange and white paint. The class designation is Ultra Stock, a category that the AHRA created for the cars when they were banned from the A/FX class by the NHRA. At this event Leal ran 11.11 before losing to fellow Mopar runner Dave Strickland.

I think that it is actually the late Dick Stahl's car with maybe Walt Stevens in the seat. For some time the car ran a home made hemi Ford engine but here it appears to have an early Chrysler. Stahl was 6' 9" tall and thus had a series of drivers over a career that spanned both the front and rear engine eras. If I am correct this is the "Easter Egg" car, so named for its ornate paint job.
I just did some digging and found the full image on WDIFL and it is not Walt but Gary Effman at Irwindale in 1971, not long before Stahl switched to rear engine cars.

    Sorry it's not moving.

I was wondering if anyone might recognize the driver and the car above? This is from the 1961 AHRA Winter National Championships held in Henderson, NV in January of 1961. Looks like a short wheelbase Dragmaster chassis...
