You need something in there to control the oil. I took a expensive box type oil pan off my dragster, oil pressure would drop when braking on the other end, and put a rear sump Hamburger pan on and picked up some impressive et. Plus no more oil pressure drop. Great pics, your making power, that's for sure.

Are you keeping your right foot planted on shifts or lifting? I noticed in the video it smokes after each shift and the farther down track the worse it got. Only the right bank. Does it have pan evac hose in both headers or just the right?

I will confess - a driver I am not - so in the blurr of the moment I'd say I'm lifting a little. The pan evac is coming from the center valley cover in the front in a shielded place on both headers. I'm almost positive this is exhaust valve ****ing oil. It smokes like hell after the burnout and by the time we launch is clear in @seadog pictures - so I'm guessing the draining is in control by launch time. Its WAAAAY less smoke with 10W/40W oil than it was with 20W/50W

On my old Ply/Willys G***er I could control the height of my wheel stand by raising or lowering the ladder bars . I wanted a higher wheel stand I lowered the bars ,more bite moved the instant center forward. Raised the bars, less wheel stand took bite out. Have you checked the rollout of both slicks ?
You may have a larger tire on the right. Do you have a tape mark on the steering wheel to tell you when the wheels are straight? Some people jerk the wheel left when they shift. I always put my hand on the bottom of the wheel when driving a stick drag car. Because I was bad to do that. faded memories.jpg

Try some 5/30 or 10/30. Take a look at Ishihara-Johnson Crank S****ers (Crank S****ers.com). This is their adjustable s****er for early Hemis with the adjustable nylon wiper.

The slicks are new and had the diameter written on them - still I need to measure. Its not always going left. Gabriel went way left in that lane too. Yeah I have white tape on the wheel - might hold the bottom of the wheel ..... sometimes **** goes haywire quick and that wheel gets the workout LOL.

Ok I have that for the 392 but when I held it up to the 467 with the big steel main caps its not gonna fly at all. Most of the pan rail edges of that s****er are going to need to be cut open 1" or more each so its on the floor ...... he probably would need my engine to make a s****per or s****er.

Quain explained that the track has I degree uphill grade and cars were actually rolling backwards and breaking the beams. The ones without line locks. How do you not have a line lock in a stick car ?

Great stuff Tony, I was rooting for you at Shadyside! You sure made her pretty in the off season (doesn't run too bad either)! See you at SIM, Carp

Ok those Jegs line locks are complete - COMPLETE - junk. And yes there's no way to drive these stick cars without a line lock unless your drum brakes are dragging maybe. But that's another spare part I need to carry - I've added a spare fuel injection pump - saved the Shady Side race - carry a spare starter - saved a race last year - old clutch discs - gave one to someone at Montgomery - now I need a spare line lock ........ its a lot of effort and money to get to a race and be too cheap to buy a spare $100 part. Good call.

When I bought a line lock for BGII I bought a Hurst, they even have rebuild kits available for them. I us it on the street for a hill holder when stopped on a steep up grade for a traffic light or stop sign and it works well for that as well as a line lock. Been on there now for awhile with no trouble:)

Not on my driveway. I still move the open trailer by hand. I see that you'll have some big space soon

That's a great idea right there :D Remember Bakersfield? That was the weekend I decided it was time for paint. ;) Way too many nice cars out there. We saw Simeon and his dad and another guy Saturday at Shady Side - apparently airplanes fly from coast to coast and west coast guys can go to east coast races :D They look like southern red necks to me .....

This thread is so cool! I'm curious as to whatever happened to the '62 Corvette Mitch Stott had for a while?

I wondered the same thing and this is what Kenneth told me - that red vette is still with the guy in Fla and he plans to run it still. This vette that Kenneth bought belonged to that guy also. So there are 2 of these

Quian built the read one but I don't know about the new one.

I'm tired of Alky mixed in gas. Wish they would just quit doing that already.

Can't wait man! Steel In Motion is my favorite race of the year. Here's the Shady side re-cap.

Here's a great video on oils . He seems to say that a 0W-30W is the same as a 10W - 30W for us southern boys .

Good video on oil, but I wish he had covered one more aspect on oil: film strength, the real measure of protection in an engine bearing or valve lifter, etc. You can usually find this in tech info on oils, especially performance oriented oils. People tend to regard viscosity as a yardstick for protection of parts in an engine when what really matters is film strength. On my diesel truck I use Amsoil Diesel oil, but don't misunderstand me here, I'm not advocating or pushing Amsoil with these comments, I'm just using it as an example because in their tech sheets film strength is covered, as all performance oils should.
For diesels, and for racing and high performance, Amsoil markets lots of different oils that are highly specialized for use, as do most quality producers of racing or high performance type oils, including Red Line, etc. And they have all sorts of specs listed somewhere in their tech sheets including the aforementioned film strength at a specific temperature.
My diesel truck, again as an example, needed a low viscosity oil for startup and stop and go around town use, but it needed high film strength when subjected to heavy loads and high speeds when pulling a loaded trailer on the interstate. This seems to be a paradox, low viscosity when cold and high film strength at high temps, high speeds and heavy load
But modern synthetics can be designed for these situations, whether on the race track or in a diesel truck:cool: Amsoil markets a synthetic 15W-40 diesel oil that has a good film strength, and a fairly low viscosity that would do a decent job, but for a bit more money, they have a 5W-30 diesel oil that has an even higher film strength at the same high temp, combined with the higher flow when cold:eek: Which would you chooseo_OThe oil pressure is a bit lower with the 5W-30 than the 15W-40, true enough.
But wait a minute:oops: what is oil pressure indicating:confused: RESISTANCE TO FLOW:eek: So the somewhat thinner oil is actually flowing thru the engine parts more easily, providing more oil to cool, clean and LUBRICATE those parts, while due to modern technology applied to synthetic oils, building up high film strength in a thinner oil you still have the same or better bearing and lifter protection:cool:
There's a guy here on HAMB, handle is BLUES4U, who is a retired lubrication engineer, find him and ask him about this.
BTW, WILLYB, Tony is a good harmonica player himself, one Sat. night around the campfire circle, at a RWYB after the day's racing party a gal with us was playing a guitar and singing blues music. Tony got out a harmonica and damn near upstaged her:cool:
