Has anyone tried to move their bench seat back on a 56 Fairlane?

I'm 6'4" and would like to make some brackets to move the benchseat back about 3 inches. I have an idea but was wondering if anyone has already tried this or maybe know if there are aftermarket brackets.

I havent, but if you choos to fab some brackets take in account that a pair of bolts are structural, meaning they hold seat and body to the frame.

I've given this some thought. You could weld tabs in front of the existing seat brackets and just slide the seat back. Depending on how flat the floor is you could do a long plate and join the front and rear brackets with holes towards the front.

I cut down my 3 speed steering column, I took 2 inches out of the middle. Easier than it looks.

With the '54 "Ranch Wagon" I moved the seat back about 6 inches since I'm 6' 4" and I needed a little extra room for my long legs and the seat will move forward when ladyhrp is driving.

I drilled new mounting holes in the sheet metal and after that I drilled holes to match in pieces of 3" x 3" 1/4" plate and welded it to the floor to reinforce the mounting points.

I made 4 of them. HRP

Whatever you do, it has to be strong as HRP illustrates. I only need to move my seat back maybe 2" (screw those in the back seat...) so I would do a bracket on the bottom of the OG seat feet.

I want it to be strong so I didnt know if I should drill new holes and add the plate under the floor. That seems like the best way.

    Thanks!

The original mounting points are in the thicker part of the floor,in my case the went through a channel that was attached to the floor. HRP

Very possible that the channel would be in line for a distance. Mine still has 3 of the 4 floating nuts in the floor.
