This thread is in reference to one I started regarding my Kustom '50 Shoebox: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98754 It's been a while since I've updated but that's cause the build isn't going forward. I've been spending the past month and a half going through the car and with a good friend, fixing the poor workmanship. Maybe I should have ***led this thread, "NICE FROM FAR BUT FAR FROM NICE". I am trying to get her ready for Paso but now I am positive she won't be painted in time but maybe I can get her there in the (oh I hate writing this when she's a Kustom) current primered look. The whole rearend and links need to be totally redone. The welds are so pathetic that even an amatuer like me could have done the work. Panhard bar was installed incorrectly, no rear brakes, incorrect hardware or none at all everywhere, no bump stops, no shocks, the fuel, air, battery lines run where they would be pinched when lowered, incorrect offset on the wheels, I could go on and on and that is only the rear section of the running gear. The worst so far was the crossmember was out of mild steel tube that forced the links to point below the frame and would cause it to pull of the entire rear end if driven at a decent lowered height. That will be taken care of this week. I can't believe I paid for this garbage and this ******* got away with it. I'm not into ripping anyone but I've had it. This guy needs to be put out of business. If you are in the SoCAL area and considering work being done by someone else PM me and I'll gladly give you his name. He is one of the biggest snakes around. Actually I think he is a pathological liar and he can't help himself because he has been ripping people off for so long. His MO is to charge labor for work that he does on his own cars (found out that he was actually fired from a professional shop that he claimed to own, for doing just that) and only work on yours enough to make it look like progress is being made. If I was less of a man, I would beat the **** out of this guy. Then, I would financially bury him. But, that would mean I would have to lower myself to his level and I won't do that. He'll get his and when he finds out that there is no one left to rip off around SoCAL he'll move elsewhere. I was told to stay away from him before but no one could back it up with actual events (just word of mouth) but now you can benifit from my hardship. I sure hope my next post is next week with some pics of her going forward...
That ****s but it doesnt do any good to rant if you arent going to name names. Please dont tell me this was a HAMB deal.
It was not a HAMB deal but I do know of a few people on here that know who he is (they PM'd me and guessed) and confirmed my su****ions that he has done this before. I'm not writing this just to vent (all though it does feel good to get it off my chest) but to make sure no one gets ripped off from this guy. Unless your from SoCAL you probably won't have any contact with him so it doesn't matter what his name is. If you are from SoCAL PM me and you'll know his name.
thats ****ing stupid. this post is a ****ing waste of time. If he ripped you off tell us his name or shut up. what is the point of this?
Jello makes a good point, why rant and rave about your problem and not warn us who the culprit is. Were family not enemies here. If your not going to share...like he said, this is a waste of ****ing time and internet space. Just my 2 cents on the matter. EXPOSE his *** so no one makes the same mistake.
OK, OK, you guys are right. Sorry to piss you off there jello. His name is Jay (Jayson) Dean and the name he calls his shop/home garage is Nostalgia Ranch. He is a Brit living in Rainbow/Fallbrook but the articles in Rod & Custom incorrectly said Indio. The past three months they did a tech article on the chop on my car so not only did he rip me off but he got exposure on my car. Do not buy anything from this guy because he also sells the cars he works on for profit when his ripping off his paying customers. The work is ****, believe me I know first hand.
Sorry to hear about your problems. Everybody has experience with learning things the hard way. You mentioned that some of the **** work you could have done better yourself. Maybe you ought to go ahead and give those things a shot. It's more fun building the finished product than driving someone else's because when you do it's guaranteed that someone somewhere has a car like yours that's "better." When your blood sweat and ideas go into it, regardless of its flaws, no car on the f***ing planet is better. Good luck.
