So I just picked up my first 50's rod. I have it on the road at the moment. But I've noticed what feels like the frame twisting, upon further inspection I can see the one side were X member on the frame has been bent a bit and the tabs are starting to pull out of the frame. If I straighten it out and tighten up the locking tabs. Get it all lined up am I going to cause more problems by welding the the X member to the frame rails. Still new these old girls and would love to hear from some experienced minds on the matter. Thanks

  2. I would bolt it if I could. I don't think you would hurt it by welding it, but if you can bolt it then it will roll and flex like before, more or less.

I have to get it into the shop on a hoist so I can have a better look at my options. I'm a bit concerned with welding them in place, I don't want to create a new stress point and get stress cracks because of lack of flex. I'll look into bolting it into place.
