    Hi fellas!
I'm trying to understand why these new lifters I bought from Rock Auto don't compress barely AT ALL. They are all each sealed with a tiny bit of oil but still only one barely compresses. Is this the norm?
The last set I bought from O'Reillys were really squishy.

Well hello: I am a newbie to this site but not to cars and trucks, hydraulic lifters ride in a bore that is oil pressure fed when engine running, if brand new they will not be pumped up with oil,I like to put them in a container under oil and push down on center with a push rod to pump them up, they should pull oil in and become stiff to push on,before install in engine, then I know that they will do what they are designed to do( brand new does not always mean good),and a good idea to put break in lube on cam lobes and bottom of lifter,if all is good the first start up should be done at 1600 rpm or higher depending on cam, this insures the right break in to lifters and will not develop flat spots, Hope this helps
