Projects What is this Chevy Pickup worth?

If you look at the pics of the lower cowl and floor by the door posts it is all rotten. that particular spot has a lot going on in a small space. The outer cowl, inner cowl and hoop or channel that is in between them catches everything and then the bottom of the door post lets go and the doors sag. Like I said in my earlier post on here I did one of these and the time really adds up to repair all of it. The one I did I ended up replacing everything on the lower parts. The inner and outer cowl, inner and outer cab corners, rockers, edges of the floors, lower cab between cab corners, cab mounts and parts of the toe board. The amount of hours I spend on this thing was unreal. Good thing the truck itself was free.

 

What's on the tailgate? Even with the rust, it's attracting the wimmins....

 

Hah, that's my roommate...she was coming back to the house when I was going to look at it and I asked if she'd like to see it. I have no idea what is on the tailgate...I thought it was stock and didn't pay attention

 

Based on the rest of the truck, I would ***ume they are rotted out too.

I paid $1,200 fairly recently for a 54 that has a tenth of that rust. It runs and drives. I built one of these that was that rusty in the past... never again. Keep shopping!

 

I think I saw that advertised on FB with the "has great patina" listed. Seems like a segment of the AD truck brigade thinks rust and bad paint adds value to those old trucks.
If you can wait him out and get it cheap enough I have a decent lower half of a 53 cab ( has the roof cut off and the dash cut out) that with your roof and dash would make a nice truck.

 

That's quite similar to what we call a rust bucket in Michigan...a parts truck. I wouldn't start with it for a redo primarily because I might not have enough daylight left...LOL.

 

I guess I'll just stick to my Model A for now...

 

Those pics brought back bad memories of all I had to do to fix the rust in mine. I bought the whole floor ***embly and firewall/toe board just to make it quicker but it was still a **** ton of work. Glad I did it for the experience but wouldnt want to do it again if I could help it.

 

take that truck, sandblast it, slather it with bondo and not really do bodywork, paint in $199.00 green, and redo the seat and that is what I sold for $2,000.00 about 10 years ago. mine started and idled well, but had a dead cylinder and would pop and backfire if you tried to drive it. I got it that way in a trade and just sold it without doing anything. first guy to look at it bought it. he made an offer and I just told him I will sell it to the next guy that calls if he did not want to pay 2 g's.

 

I'm with you. If I had that for sale here for $2K there'd be a waiting list of guys wanting to buy it. Sure, replacing cab corners and hinge pockets is a ***** but it's not impossible.

Here's how the HAMB works. Post pictures of a truck like this, tell the HAMB you're interested in buying it and want to know it's value, guys throw out s****per prices and talk about how it's not worth it and you should find a better one. Post the exact same pictures and talk about how this might get crushed or parted out and you'll have just as many responses from guys crying about how that's a very saveable truck and needs to be rescued and they've fixed way worse, blah blah blah.

Basically, every single project needs to be saved but almost none have any monetary value if they "need a lot of work". I don't get it.

 

I like the wheels. Lotsa rust in that rascal. Wait for a better one.

The rust mites look to have worked it over. Last year I got a similar one with a bit less rust but no engine for $350, with a good ***le. Decided not to "do" it and sold it for 850. This is also WA state. Bought a running/driving one with very minor rust for 1100 and drove it home. I know people say they're going fir big bucks and I see them advertised for 5000 but don't hear them selling for that unless they're quite a bit further than that.
Definitely wouldn't crush it but it's more than I would do.

Parts like beds and fenders are available in the after market world. Cabs can be found in better shape. If it runs and drives and stops, it has value if you are not a mechanic. I`m gonna do some work on a truck of the same vintage that the guy replaced 80% of the truck in new parts. Cheaper than doing repairs if you have the bucks.

 

Just visiting this old thread. I wonder if the OP bought this truck. The rust you see has twice as much that you can't see, as others have commented. But it is very typical for the Midwest. People are asking crazy prices for trucks like that now. Where I live that truck probably couldn't be bought for less than $2500. Just saying...

 

Agreed . Keep looking on CL even in Oregon or Cali. Keep eyes peeled while running down the country roads. Heck put a wanted ad on CL.
