I want to put sombrero style stainless hubcaps on my 47 ford but not sure what wheels I need to use ? I want To use 15" rims on 40's ford hubs , I know I will have to modify the hubcaps but think standard ford rims are too shallow to take a sombrero! Any help appreciated Keith Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Your looking at a 15" 54'-55' Caddy Hubcap on a 5" wide wheel with a 3" back space. 3" B.S. is about the max. Have all your weights put to the inside for a good even external fit.
Thanks It was which wheel I can use , that will fit a sombrero style cap Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Considering the wheel covers you want to use, you need a wheel center with the least 'shape' protruding to the outside. Those accessory 'wire basket' wheels come to mind. Not the fake wire part, but the concave shape of the wheel center that may more readily accept the sombrero cover without interference. At the moment, I can't think of any OEM wheel with the 4.5" bolt circle that meets that criteria. Older Buick, Pontiac, Olds and Caddy wheels would accept the cover, but are all 5" bolt circle. Lastly, you could get wider aftermarket wheels with more 'front spacing'. Trailer wheels often have that more concave shape, are usually 5" or 5.5" wide and are readily available in 4.5" bolt circle.
