Been trying to get new project started. Have Model A frame with new front i beam suspension and disc brakes, 327 being rebuilt, turbo 350 and s 10 4x4 rear end. Yesterday purchased a very solid rust free Model A cowl and passenger door. Think it may be sedan cowl but not sure yet. Anyway was wondering if anyone had pics of home fabricated body's that just started with a Model A cowl? Trying to get some ideas of what I could do with it. Not really intrested in woody types more on the metal side. Thanks, Bill

  6. I really like that kind of build because it is the fishheads type. I honestly like it!
Something I learned as a learned as a kid...Maximum Utilitization of Available Resources.
Looks to me like the man has skill and no resources to find all the parts and completes it to satisfy himself and has another on the way.
Ever do something with what you had available and somebody REALLY ran their mouth about how they disliked what you put your hard earned resources and effort into? Fishheads answer.

the red one is the third one he is building from just a cowl, it will get a short body and a tow truck boom. he built two of the roadster pickups and the pictures just don't do it justice. his craftsmanship is top notch. most of the pieces he used were cast aways from other guys projects.
for the back of the bodies, he would give me dimensions and i would bend up the panels and he would fit them.

Pretty much what I'm thinking, home built but not rat rod. My hat's off to your friends work. Any pics of inside structure? Thanks

image.png If you like woodies, and you like woodworking.....build a woodie. Lots of plans for woodie type vehicles are available. If not, just buy a complete A body and sell the cowl to someone who is building a woodie.

Some nice cars here! You might check your state regs. Until recently in PA, you couldn't run a fenderless car or have the tread farther out than the fender. ( of course, as soon as I carefully measured and bought wheels and tires, they amended that law. :) )

Or better yet, build a "woodie" but instead of using wood, use something like 1"x3" rectangular mild steel tubing. You could panel bond the sheet metal to the inside of the tube framework. Then wood grain all of the metal to finish it.

I used a 1930 Chevy cowl. But a Model A cowl could be used just as easily. 30-TAIL.jpg 30-SIDE.jpg

I used a 29 roadster cowl and made everything behind that out of fiberglass. 20170325_185701.jpg Snapchat-7922966700649039376.jpg 20161026_000123.jpg
