I've got three broken bolts where the trans member bolts to the frame on my '49 ford. I've tried an easy out but it broke. I'm weary of drilling or using a torch...I'll probably just make it worse. Suggestions? I might try welding a washer/nut and backing it out...
There's only 3 things that will work on broken bolts like that- piss and vinegar...and oh yeah...PATIENCE! I've actualy had a lot of luck with using a small punch or chisel to turn the bolt a little at a time.
I've had some good results using a left hand drill bit. I learned the hard way to do that before I had it all "butchered". Good luck, Frank
Yup, and one I tried was a mere 1/8" in diameter, broken off clean in aluminum!! The reason it works so well is that the heat breaks the rust bond, while you are providing a method of turning it. However, if the bolt extends through, and is rusted on the other side as well, you should cut that part off first. Cosmo
