Just got back from OKC. Hauled a 38 Chevy up there "just because", sold a few parts in the swap meet and visited with some folks I haven't seen in a while. I didn't take many pictures, but I thought ya'll might like these.

One more "traditional" car I took a picture of.

    Dirty,
The show at the fairgrounds was real good, I had a better time than I've had in a few years. There were "rustic" homebuilts, nice homebuilts, pro built---what ever you wanted to see.
I heard the cops were REAL pushy on Meridian though. One guy said that he stopped to let a spectator take a picture of his car (in bumper to bumper traffic) on Saturday night and a cop gave him a $200.00 ticket for impeding traffic. The Chief of Police was on TV earlier in the week and said he wished they'd move the Nats somewhere else. With that kind of at***ude they probably should.
The swap meet was ok. It had some old speed equipment and some mid 50's pickup and a panel wagon, but it wasn't very big. You could probably walk it out in less than an hour.

My friend had his pickup and enclosed trailer stolen from the motel. I heard that several trailers were stolen during the weekend including one with a 32 inside.

Had a great time at OKC this weekend. We went to Mustang for the poker run on Saturday night and really enjoyed the evening. I drove the "Johhny"s Speed Shop" truck for its first run. When we left it only had about 100 miles on it and we made the run in the fast lane most of the way. Now it has about 800 miles on the odometer. Looking forward to Dewey.

All of the hotels recommended by the NSRA folks on their web site were away from Meridian. My understanding from the motel manager that I talked to on Meridian was that the city wants somebody to pay for the cops to be out there all evening. The NSRA has declined and the motel operators can not seem to form a group to foot a bill. My guess is that the show will go elsewhere in the near future.

Hey Larry T, this is David . Just to clear things up,the guy taking the picture was in a car in the other lane and we never stopped. Just slowed to about 20 mph for 10 to 15 seconds, if that long. Speed limit was 30. Go figure. Cop was a real jerk. I'm gonna fight it, probably lose, but definitely won't go back to OKC.
The Nats won't move. The NSRA just wants to bury their head in the sand. Tried to talk (nicely) to the show manager about the police dept. at***ude and he walked off. The membership should boycott the city ,but that won't happen. Should have went to Mustang. Live and learn.

    Hey David,
Larry Crane was telling me about what happened to you. I think I'd fight it too, sounds bogus. I don't know if you've thought about it or not, but you might talk to the Chamber of Commerce also. And most towns have a Hotel/Motel ***ociation that promotes tourism. These guys are the ones that stand to lose, not the cops on salary or the NSRA guys. If you talk to them, maybe they can rock the boat a little.
    Hope things go your way.

I attended my first NSRA event in OKC in 1974, I believe. (I was just a kid, 14 years old) I am ready to boycott the event. I never went near Meridian this past weekend.
