Checked my PM but I like posting on the thread, you get a free bump and maybe some brainstorming!
Here's a very crude '36 tail light stand (looking for a better original one) mounted on rear fender. Many things to consider, the 3 majors are gas filler, license plate and license plate light. Since the stock unit sticks past the fender I could cut off horizontal part of stand and shorten it to desired length. At first I thought the Dia. of your bezels were to big looking on the stand but maybe not. It's only about a 1/4" total. If making a bucket (not a bullet) it would be only as deep as needed for light guts inside. The base where it would bolt to would be 2 1/2". To deal with the license plate light I would simply (yeh rite!) Slot top of bucket and install a real gl*** lens. Any of this make sense?

Gotcha. Not being familiar with the '36 mounts I didn't consider the need or desire for the license plate to be mounted there. Casting a specific bucket to work for that application would not be difficult but it would be custom for sure.

Look up Surf City's '36, he hates the stock rear stands so he mounted some bullets between the '36 duckbill and fender........................................

My dad put 47 truck taillight buckets onto the 36 stems. They were big enough to accommodate the poncho lights, bezel and all.

I don't know him personally, but I saw fourspd2quad's castings in person at a local swap meet a few weeks ago. I have to say they look beautiful and are made right, by a craftsman, with good material, not some Chinese, **** metal junk. I'll be getting a set of his taillight bezels for my next project.

Thanks Tagman, I really appreciate the support and endor*****t. Those are very kind words. I only use clean aluminum A356 ingot in my castings.

Any chance of making the original size ones that fit the plymouth/desoto twilight buckets like the ones pictured at the first of your article. I have the smaller plymouth pod size with the stock chrome ring and lenses.

Pure awesomnicity. If you dont mind naming a price on the board, What kind of price are we looking at on the DeSoto/Pontiac bezel?

I certainly wouldn't mind Belair but I would be breaking the rules. Here is the link to my ads that are in the cl***ifieds and a link to my website which I just launched where you can see all my stuff.

Are you asking if I can cast a bezel to fit the original desoto lenses and bucket? If so I suppose I could but would need the parts in hand to do the design work.

Sorry, I could supply a bucket and stock ring but I do not have the fancy desoto ones. I have stock lenses and chrome bezels on my plymouth lights. They were hard enough to find. I look hard at the repro ones on ebay but they are also based on a pontiac sized lens and flat application.

The first photo is of the smaller plymouth lights like mine..... hard to tell without perspective
I turned the mounts 180 degrees and stood them on the custom bumper pan on my 38 pickup
The second photo appears to be the larger desoto ?? chrysler ?? light with a smaller plymouth bezel beside it. I need the smaller size.
I realize making them is impractical because even the plymouth light pods are pricey and hard to find.
The pods are always rotted out. Typical plymouth sheet metal. $_12.jpg 100_1375.jpg

Here is my 1st tail light ***embly with just a plain bucket. I am awaiting a '37 tail light and model a tail light so I can get the mounts right for anything from '28-'37.

If you get bezels for a '36 Ford, I'm in ! Let me know and I'll pick them up (I'm in Rochester). If you need a '36 taillight ***embly for mock-up, let me know and I'll loan one to you.

Model A thru the '36 model year all mount the same (flat on the back) and even have the same bolt pattern. I am currently working on this design and will be casting some time soon. All of these designs are based on the '50 Pontiac tail light so they will all have cast cans that allow them to mount to the various years. They will also have the option for license plate lenses.

    Hi all,
As I develop the tail light buckets to house my original designs for externally mounted tail lights it dawned on me that not everyone with external mounts uses the factory location for the license plate. Some move the plates to the rear panel below the trunk and don't require the license plate light to be part of the tail light housing. Thoughts? My guess is that it's somewhere around 50-50 even for the traditional crowd.
