Need help.........I HAVE A 454 chev. and trying to match it up to a 1948 Ford top loaded 3speed tramy.....I have the motor and the chev to ford adapter and using the flywheel that was on the engine.......tried using the Chevy pressure plates ..... They are not working......does it require a early ford p/p? Anyone that has done this swap have any part numbers or dimensions.....thanks.. 978 973 6422. Jim

Dump the ford trans. Get a Muncie 4 speed. You will thank me later. Adds a gear and will handle the horsepower of the 454.

Even a weak **** 454 will be hard on that early transmission.

you will blow that ford trans up in a week. but if you insist, you need the Chevy flywheel, with the stock ford disk and the pressure plate for a 51 Merc. That will work with the throw-out bearing on the ford trans and the bolt pattern for the pressure plate will match up to a stock chevy diaphragm clutch bolt pattern.

Why waste your time and money on a transmission that will last a week if you are lucky?

I had to find mine used and then sent it to Ft. Wayne to freshen it up. Going to be hard to find after market new. My 39 trans is behind a 4-71 blown 283. I don't 'pop' the clutch. If I find where I purchased it I will pm you.

Good evening to all that has replied. Appreciate your warnings but this is restored car going into his museum and needs to be what he ran before. If you would like to see how its going search on HAMB for Bentley 44. Like your comments! Right now I have the Chevy flywheel. ...and a ford clutch disc.......like to see a ford 3 fingered p/p especially the distance laying the p/p flat on bench w/fingers up......thanks once again. Finger adjustment is measured with the intended clutch disc and it will be clamped down on a clutch setting fixture (or a flywheel would suffice too) so I don't think it will help much to get measurements with a pp on the bench.
The Ford Long style pp needs three sets of two holes with the sets spaced 120*, but the Chevy flywheel will have six equally spaced holes. The reason the Merc pp was recommended is because it will have the same bolt pattern as the Chevy 'wheel. As an alternative you could have a machine shop drill and tap the correct bolt holes for a Ford Long style pp.
