  1. Maserati 8CLT being driven by Frank Shuter at the Lady Wigram Trophy Race, Wigram airfield circuit, Christchurch, New Zealand, 1958. Shuter 8CLT.jpg

  2. Chaney's Corner, a few miles north of Christchurch, New Zealand around the mid 1960s. A Chev coupe and a Fiat Topolino with Ford 1500 power. This is only about a mile from where I grew up. I visited that Mobil gas station many times myself. Search 1055 Main North Road Christchurch for a current streetview shot. Chaneys Corner 1960s Eric Johnson Fiat with 1500 Ford McNaughton Chev.jpg

This picture just surfaced, faded, taken over 50 years ago, yours truly. A common theme of older photos, the young serviceman and his car. Sure brings back a lot of memories.

    Hey LG,
After seeing Lefty Muddersbach's inline twin SBC dragster at Lions, my brother had this hair brained idea. Wouldn't it be cool to have this big Packard with the same set up as the Muddersbach TWIN FED? He even drew a couple of sketches of a Packard with twin SBC motors in the huge engine compartment.

Would it work? Who knows, we were just a couple of young early teens with hair brained ideas.

Everything you need. A record shop, a coffee shop and a Twin H powered Hudson out the front.

  16. A trip to the Homer tunnel in a 1935 Dodge in 1960. The Homer tunnel is on the access road to Milford Sound in Fiordland, South Island, New Zealand. Still plenty of pre war cars on the road in NZ in those days. 1935 Dodge trip to Milford a.jpg 1935 Dodge trip to Milford b.jpg 1935 Dodge trip to Milford c.jpg 1935 Dodge trip to Milford Homer tunnel.jpg

    Poor driver/passenger(s) ?
    What happened?
Is there a story for this photo?
    p.s.
Not only the roof and rear quarter were blown off, but note how the small ventilation door in the cowl piece is thrown wide open... a detail.

  18. This one was shot in Wellington, New Zealand in 1964. The original title of the pic was that it was during Louis Armstrong's tour here. Obviously that is not the man himself. maybe a member of his band. Someone else suggested maybe Duke Ellington? Duke Ellington Wgtn 1964.jpg

  23. 1954, Mairehau road circuit on the outskirts of Christchurch New Zealand. Ron Frost's (that is him in the checked cap )Cooper-Norton (500 cc) receives some maintenance in the pits. Behind it is the very well known locally built Stanton Special, usually called the Cropduster as it is powered by a De Havilland Gypsy Major aero engine. That car is still in Christchurch and has been with the same owner for more than 40 years. The lower pic is the same car at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2009.
