Below are two pics of my 1963 falcon future HardTop. I made some simple changes on Photoshop - lowered, whitewalls, and my original rims. What do you all think and/or what would you do. I really want to maintain the side molding but the badges will be removed. Colors, custom paint, different rims. any thoughts would be desired. Plus any help on my technique for photoshoping would be desired.

    Thanks all.

I can see why you'd want to change out the wheels on your car, but I don't think this is the right car for wide whitewalls.

If you're going to do painted steel wheels, consider running redline tires on them. They were the hot shit in the 60's. They aren't very common anymore so they'd really be a standout feature. You could make your own or buy new ones. On the original steel wheels with some dogdish hubcaps, would look really nice on that car.

Or, if you're wanting to have more of a 'custom' look and less musclecar, give the car a lowering job and run some spoke wheels with a skinny whitewall or a black sidewall tire. Your car is the right era for Torq Thrusts, or you could get some Fentons, Radirs, or Supremes, anything with a 60's spoke design.

As far as the rest of the body goes, it's in really nice shape (at least it looks nice in the pics) so I probably wouldn't change anything, maybe a white painted roof to offset the all-blue car.

back in the 60s the ford folks came up with the challenger, modified falcon, it was sectioned and was a awsome looking car. used for road racing.

I'd go with big and little paint-matching steel wheels with small dog dish hub caps, red line tires (biggest I could fit in the back).

An A/FX inspired rendition...altered wheelbase, moved rear axle and front axle forward, chopped da top a wee bit, did a mild section, re-sized the doors...

  10. i onced envisioned a pint sized bellflower cruiser made out of a falcon wagon. astros, pinner white walls, bellflower tips, appropriate paint job. but i cant see the same thing with the coupe.

but i agree with senor Tingler, gasser!!! hilborn stuck through the hood, big white ceramic coated fender well dumps, solid front axle, and some nasty tall slicks in the back (not neccesarily wide)

i don't have a lot of spare money, so i think cheap and i think simple.

    here's what i'd do:

first, i'd clean up those rims as best as you can. then i'd paint them like the ones on the bleedster. i think bobbleed's colors would work out really well for you (good contrast). if you want something more subtle, try periwinkle with body color blue fogged around the outers and inners.

there have been numerous posts on here about constructing your own spider caps, or you could always just use chrome dust caps (not a bad option!). chrome lug nuts of course, bullet style preferred, but whatever's cheap and handy would do. squablow recently posted a neat thread on making your own cal custom-style inner trim rings from dog dish hubcaps... that'd be another interesting idea that you could try to combine with the above ideas.

of course all this would be done with skinny whitewall tires, the cheap ones you can get 4 for $150 at pep boys.

let's not forget to cut the coils on the front and put some blocks in the rear.

i wouldn't really worry about body mods on a 60's car and if the paint is remotely OK i'd keep it.

I vote for either 60s custom or injected, straight axle match race ball buster.

As for photoshop, I tried my version of a later sixties style custom--
Shave all emblems, trim, and door handles. Two tone paint. Slammed on pinner whites. Since I'm dreaming my wheel choice would be 15x6 Cragar GTs like they used on the '65 Shelby Mustangs.

I`ll go with that also! I`m gonna go against the grain and say I like it as is! If it was a rough car than I would go Gasser, but sheeze! That`s a nice one!

Hell yeah. The A-bros did it right. That barracuda is the shit.
All it needs is a set of vintage Goodyear Blue Streaks.

I like the 60s customs shown, but this thread should point out the fact that you will get a different answer from everyone, so in the end, it's up to you.

I drive a '61 Futura that has air suspension. Otherwise, it's largely stock, and the longer I own it (just over 10 years now), the less I'm interested in wild and crazy and more interested in long-term timelessness. I have the same taste in hot rods, too, so that's just my take on it.

I personally prefer these early 60s cars to sit low, so that's what I did with mine, originally cutting coils and using blocks and lowered leaf springs. Once I got it low, the rest just looked right and I didn't spend a lot of time changing things that didn't need to be changed.

I currently run black steel wheels with inexpensive thin whitewalls. I do plan to eventually run a set of chrome reverse wheels with spider caps because those were the bee's knees. I have some spiders and Cal-Custom mini trim rings stashed in a secret vault.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you repaint the car, there's a good change you'll drop a motorcycle against your rear quarter panel, much like I did this morning.

Here's an old photo of my car for the newbies:

  21. This is what we would have done with it when I was a kid. Well maybe not as exaggerated, but you get the idea.

Oh hell!! I'll throw my two cents in!!I like 4t64rd's and Rasputins!! How about a real subtle candy blue lace paneled roof, skinny whites on chrome smoothies with a little candy blue misted around the lug holes and the rim between the center and outside piece.

  25. :D My 2 cents worth is "I'll drink to this" This is what pops into my mind when I think Falcon! Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

I just drooled all over the keyboard. This Falcon is killer. I also like the AFX thing too. I just might have to buy that 63 Falcon wagon I looked at last weekend.

I'd drive it like that but if it was mine i'd just lower it and run the wheels off of it. I dropped my wagon a few inches and i love it now it looks just right. Round bodied falcons don't take much to look sweet !!

I want Haring's car with a raspberry metalflaked roof.

IMO I like the hardtops better as hot rods. The tudors with the bubble back glass like Haring's make better cruisers.

FWIW I'm putting those wheels on my 64, but it's not really HAMB oriented - trying to go for an early musclecar look.

Thanks everybody, don't know how I missed all these great thoughts, BUT a big Thank You! I love the paint schemes but right know, the only body work I have money for is some panel adjustments and some dent repair. The body is in great shape, from a few feet. I like the Astro look, but to get this thing on the road now, the classic rims will have to do. I'll post a pic of the rims with the hubs on them and you guys can weight in on body color or otherwise and with or without hubs. The hubs are just like those on 61falconwagons.

I love the idea of a thin white though and LOWER is a must. How is the ride with heat lowered coils and blocking the lefts? Is there another way without going to bags? Thanks again. Pics of the rims to follow at the period break between the Sharks and Vancover.
