SEM "Trim Black" anyone used it??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Jan 1, 2008.

  1. Does anyone have any experience with SEM trim black? I know they now make Hot Rod black but was wondering about their trim black. From what I understadt it is for doing the black hoods on muscle cars ect. Anyway is it enamel or single stage eurothane? I looked on their website and they only had a MSDS for it but no tech sheet.

    Thanks,
    Todd

I've used it in a rattle can. kinda semi-gloss-almost-flat. nice sheen for plastic mirror bodys, window trim black out.
holds up well, easy to work with. Probably "right" for Delco starters and generators.

I've used it for years. Doesn't require a primer coat. Lacquer based.

  6. I know the JohnDeer implement paint cannot be painted over. Is the Trim Black from SEM the same?

    Thanks,
    Todd

  7. How is it to spray? does it hold up well? It seems do be "flatter" than alot of the other flat paints out their. (which is what I want).

    Thanks,
    Todd

And the second is my brothers 72 C-10 Long Bed, I like using it beter that "Hot Rod Black Primer", its not porous like primer it is durable and can be sanded and painted over. They say you can use there thinner but I never thin I just strain it real well and shoot it right out of the can. It's real forgiving...

I've never had a problem spraying over it, even as far as making repairs, scuff and panel shoot. It's about as easy to spray as anything out there.....

Cripes I've been trying to get my OT tailight trim painted for a month and I know, "why didn't/don't you just do this or that" or maybe you should plan better or blah blah blah.
Been wanting to try SEM for a long time and know how popular it is but this particular paint number is b/o'd been getting the "in two weeks" deal every two weeks for a month.

I actually used it on 'trim'. OT bumper covers, etc. SEM's good stuff. Pay attention to prep (clean) and it's a winner.

    Update
I did get my SEM Euro black trim paint but wasn't able to get to the job all summer.
Finally painted my OT 96 Impala SS aluminum/plastic tail light bezels, WOW, this was the best rattle can painting experience EVER.
Just scuff and paint, no primer needed, this stuff is worth the price, I highly reccomend it.

Used it (rattle can) in the body shop in Redwood City where I work for years. Good stuff. Very durable, dries kinda semi gloss not flat flat.
