    No.

This ONLY holds true if the geometry of the throttle bellcrank geometry is correct. If it is not, like if you use an uncorrected Holley or Edelbrock carburetor, the line pressure will be inappropriate at every throttle position, except full throttle.

Y'all can choose to ignore me, but if you do, you will get to see what these are for:

  3. Get the BowTie Overdrive carb bell crank tool. Not that expensive and makes your tranny golden with no worries. This is the one I use on my Holley Quadrajet replacement spread-bore.

If it hasn't slipped yet, the tranny fluid doesn't smell burnt at all and I add the geometry corrector now, will I be fine for a good 100k miles as long as the adjustment stays correct?

I do have an aftermarket cooler to keep my 700R nice and chilly.

Wipe some fluid on a clean paper towel. Look for fine particulate.

If you see none, carry on. If you see any, change the fluid, and carry on.

  6. Yep, should be fine. And tranny coolers most of the time on grocery getters and streetlight bandits serve to heat the fluid rather than cool it, driving off water condensate and all that implies. Remember Hydramatics with their less efficient fluid couplings than modern lock up torque converters had no cooling provisions except when used in big trucks and WWII military tanks.

I do a lot of highway driving and stop and go traffic.

The main reason I got one, is so I could delete the radiator cooler.

#1 the line on my new cooler won't fit into the rad one.

#2 with a cheap eBay radiator, I'm terrified of leaking antifreeze into my tranny fluid and frying the thing.

I bought a Hayden 678 Plate and fin cooler, the GVRW on it was 20,000 so I figure its more than enough for a 700R4.
Will do! Thank you so much for the help.

I guess that being very anal about proper major vehicle component care helped me out in this case.

  8. For what it's worth when I adjusted my TV cable as instructed at Full Throttle etc etc the shift points were way too high for my liking just about the same as what you posted. I backed off the tension on the table about a quarter inch and she shifts perfectly. By the way I do not believe that if the cable is out of adjustment you will quote destroy the transmission unquote unless you drive it like a crazy person and allow it to slip.

I need to install one of those. The sad part is that they're like $70. Way too much for me to afford at the moment.
The second I would notice it slipping, I'd have it towed to the tranny shop. I'm not frying a rebuild just because I have some place to be.
Way too expensive for me to afford :(

I bought an OT 84 Vette that had been changed over from Crossfire FI to a Eldy carb. They had simply wrapped the TV cable around the linkage so it worked somewhat, but not correctly. I didn't notice it until I had already been driving it about 1000 miles and it started not going into OD. Couldn't see the linkage under the air cleaner, so I hadn't noticed it. I bought a corrector bracket for the Eldy carb, but it was too late, the damage was done. Soon after, it lost OD completely. It never slipped the whole time. Sold it shortly thereafter.

  12. 1000 miles? Never took the air cleaner off? Didn't slip? OD or lockup?

I guess I wasn't clear, about 1000 miles total driving, not at one time. No, I never took the air cleaner off, didn't have a reason to, it was an open element and it looked new. Driving it home, I thought it wasn't going into overdrive sometimes, but wasn't sure, temp in the high 90's, no AC, it was like sitting in a fishbowl with the exhaust drone pounding your head so after a while you didn't notice anything, you just wanted to get home. Tach didn't work, or at least you couldn't see the damn thing in the sunlight, too dim, never heard it flare up like it was slipping though. The TV cable was close enough it worked, but far enough off that it allowed internal slippage to kill the trans over a few miles.
The car was mess, too many stupid, goofy things done to it that I didn't look at closely enough before I bought it. So why did I buy it? It was shiny red, it was loud, it was fast, it was a Vette, and most important of all, the wife wanted it!

Sold it six months later and bought her a better one. And even it turned into a disaster, but that's another story for another day......

  17. Isn't it curious how more details can change the complexion of a story. I apologize for getting snarky on you. You may have gone through two Corvettes but I have been through three wives. Hahaha

Foind this one out after months of hair pulling, bought a "bowtie overdrive" tv made ez kit.
If i remember right, something to do with a solenoid return spring in the valve body that helps out alot too.
    And geometry is key!

I may have missed it. Possible with my attention span. What are you using for the fourth gear lock up?

But you CAN afford a complete 700R4 rebuild? Get a low balance credit card. Sell some blood plasma or something.

All of the commercial kits work, or you can roll your own.

Trick on owning Corvettes----buy when they are at their lowest depreciation prices. Still get the satisfaction { or frustration } of owning a Vette, even if it isn't the latest model.
As far as wives go, still have the first one, be 40 years in March. Never figured out a way to run her off....

I don't think there is an inexpensive way to go thru 3 wives though! Luckily I don't have personal experience with that, though.

Doesn't bother me what he is using I have one on my car for the last ten years. Just hasn't been mentioned and is as important as the TV cable set up

I told mine that when she turned 40 I'd trade her in on 2 20s. She said I wasn't wired for 220...
