Okay Guys, got some stock rims today, 15 inch some 4 1/2 and some 5 inches wide, and "Fargo" dogdish style hubcaps, these are not easy to get. So my truck has currently 15 inch wheels for an old explorer, with P 235 75 15 tires, I really don't want smaller shorter tires, and cannot afford Coker repops, so need to find out what I can work with. Thanx in advance... I mounted an old p 205 75 15 tire on one of the rims for a test look, very short, but i plan on painting the rims navy blue with y light blue truck might look good...
Go to 1000Rims.com They have a great Tire Size Comparer, where you plug in all your specs, and it instantly shows all the data. I've been using it for years, with great success.
Thanx Man, dont think I will be able to use any of the 4 1/2 inch rims and the 5 inch rims will be pushing it... I can tell you a few years ago I mounted L78 15 wide whites on 5 inch rims...
Punch the rim size into the search function, with 3WLarry as HAMB'r ... and I can guarantee you'll find sizes, pictures, and some hefty chuckles. He was the tire master. Much missed. I know the answer, but you may have more fun looking.
.. I've been running 235/75's on 5 inch gennie wheels on the rear of my '35 for years They wear evenly with no issues ...
Thank you Sir will have a looksy. I figured this would work, even might on 4 1/2 rims, if you drive civil, especially on hard cornering..
I have 2 and a 3rd (on the way) 5 inch wide wheels, and 2 4 1/2, and these old rims are harder to find. I am gonna try P235 75 15s on em, even the 4 1/2 inch wide wheels. Wish me luck....LOL
Okay installed a P 235 75 15 tire on a 5 inch wide 15 inch wheel, it fits very well with minimal side bulge. I have not tried this same size tire on a 4 1/2 inch 15 wheel, but could it work? Here is the P 235 75 15 tire on the 5 inch wide rim on my truck.
I worked in a tire shop in the early 70s and we had this steady customer with a toyota pickup and a big-*** camper on the back. He was running wide 6 ply tires on the back with original Toyota rims...prolly 4.5" wheels and he kept splitting rims...found out he was running 65-70 PSI in those oversized tires. We run a lot less pressure in our hotrods, especially in the back so I wouldn't be afraid to run 235s on 5 inch rims if you keep the pressures down to about 25 lbs or so. I ran original 5 inch 16s on my 41 Pontiac with 245/75-16 pickup radials on it at about 22-25 lbs. Rode nice, handled good and I never sweated a split rim problem..
This evening had time to test fit a rather large P 235 75 15 tire on a 4 1/2 X 15 inch wheel no problem and looks good. Now am I crazy or what....LOL
thanks for doing this !!!! been pondering putting 225 tires on my 51 hornet 5inch rims .....now I'm definitely going to do it Sent from my SM-G903W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
