So tomorrow if I hear "thunder" or feel the ground tremble under my shop I will know you got it on the road. Jim
Jim if all goes well on the test drive i might stop by and give you a ride. Im curious about the zoomies on how loud they will be and how they sound.
Brian, I will be "South of the Border" at a cars & coffee event until about 1pm. If you are out and about in the afternoon cruise by and piss off my neighbors with the zoomies!
Mission accomplished its running. This is the first time its been outside this year. The start up went smooth. We did it on gas today. My buddy mark is on the way over so we can set the pinion angle and pre load on the four link. Weather permitting i will be out disturbing the peace tomorrow. Later in the week i will convert it over to nitro for some on track action. Squirell posted a video on the meltdown site for me of the first fire up.
Mark stopped by as planned. The chassis is now set up to race. I need to do about a hours work on it monday then go cruisin.
Too loud, you Hoodlum Will/can the idle be smoothed out, or is that the nature of the beast? Either way, I'm thinking just hit the pedal and hang on!
The idle will smooth out when the engine temp comes up. The fuel map is sending alot more fuel into the engine because its cold. Its like having the choke on. With efi a blown car wont get the surging up and down idle that carburated cars are prone to have. My car likes 1150 rpm in neutral and 1000 rpm in gear.
The first road trip went well. The expansion tank that was added over the off season worked great. I was having trouble keeping it cool. I explained the situation to the guys at mezziere water pumps while at pri last year. They looked at my pics of the system and told me to add the tank. It has to be mounted higher than the radiator. It has lines going to both the hot and cold side. It removes the air in the system allowing it to make pressure. The way the radiator was mounted on a angle it always had air trapped in it. It works so well now i could drive with one fan on getting no hotter than 185 degrees. Due to limited space in the trunk its mounted inside behind the passenger seat. Two number 6 lines run to it. Its info like this that i get from the manufacturers at pri that make that trade show so great. I was able to drive the car out to union grove and back. Its about a 50 mile round trip.
Huh? Is right. I drove it one way without ear plugs. I drove it back with them in. Its loud for sure. Going down the road i could see people out in their yards about a quarter mile way looking to see what was coming down the road. The look on their faces had me laughing the whole time. My neighbor at the end of the block heard it start up sunday. He is a half mile away. Its not bad at all with ear plugs. Its better than the side pipes were. It sounds better to.
What percent more would you guesstimate it is when on nitro? Say with the muffled zoomies? 50%? I****ume double with the non-baffles? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Open headers and nitro is so loud you cant really hear any louder. The sound level is maxxed out. After the fun leisurely cruise today its time now to do some schedualled maintainance and inspecting. Before anyone says wtf you just got it together remember i got 50 or so miles on it today. Im used to working on the dragster were we only get 1/4 mile out of it before the heads come off. This time around i will leave the pan on because the filter looked good. With this kind of power level and the cost of these parts i have no problem taking a peek inside. open up and say ahhh for me. Its cheap insurance.
Is the radiator shell/grill ever going to make a reappearance, or is it gone for good? A cut away fiberglass painted-on-grill version would really add to the 'funny car' vibe....
The rebuilt tank bracket fits right in. It doesn't jump out at you, you have to be looking for it to pick it out.
i originally wanted the grille up front to help it keep its Chrysler identity. as things became more complicated up front it became clear it would not fit anymore. its now a wall hanger. so far everything looks good.
Very cool news to pass on. I have been holding on to this news for a couple of weeks now. I had to keep it under wraps until a official announcement was made. The week before the start of the dream cruise in detroit this year a select group of cars were invited to race on the most famous road in america that being woodward avenue. My car and i were invited to mix it up with a few of the countries fastest street cars for the roadkill nights detroit. To be invited into this limited group is a big deal. Nitro street racing on woodward how much better could it get?there are a few other big announcements coming soon.
I got to see and hear this beast run briefly at Meltdown last year. That *is* smoothed out and mellow comparatively. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
