Sorry if I'm in the wrong area please move if needed.it doesn't really fit any cat.

Hey there guys it's been awhile ,I've been lurking but not much out of me since I got rid of everything I've been working on ! So today a made a deal on a new toy I'm going to get it tomorrow! I'm buying a 1948 dodge desoto. Nothing fancy it's a 4 door rear suicide doors . And it's not a custom yet. It's a restored car it's in nice shape and runs and drives great . I went for a 4 door because my wife wants a kid so I'll put some seat belts in the back and have my kid transportation my truck isn't kid friendly. So the car is currently running it's l6 with the 3 on the tree. It runs and drives like a champ. So the plan is I have a 73 d100 truck with a rebuilt drive line 360 magnum od 4 speed manual trans and a 8 3/4 rear the truck is beat but the drive line 5000 miles old so I think I'm going to to a heart transplant to give that desoto a little go. But not until my back surgery is done and successful. Until then I will just keep driving the l6 and enjoy it. It's already converted to 12v so that will make life easier. What do you guys think ? 00e0e_e6xIMqFsgCN_600x450.jpg 00Z0Z_1MhcFQbMP1I_600x450.jpg 00u0u_4mlSw5TPddg_600x450.jpg 00G0G_gq0FOZuW0tx_600x450.jpg 00c0c_7cjYBgrefru_600x450.jpg 00s0s_1rfx3nXpn4z_600x450.jpg 00F0F_afDCWMU5WtM_600x450.jpg 00909_hwOGg7lHTud_600x450.jpg 00X0X_jZpkIbw4dtt_600x450.jpg 01313_2BjPWQEKjR0_600x450.jpg 00M0M_7jNJ4LSzROr_600x450.jpg

  2. Damn nice!If you seatbelt the back you'll probably have to do the front also.

Classic taxi ( check old films). But it is a DeSoto not a Dodge DeSoto. DeSoto was the second level Chrysler product with Dodge #3 and Plymouth #4. I would probably just it as is except install front and back seat belts.

Thanks guys it was in a line up I was looking at and at first the grille kinda bothered me then the more I looked at it the more I liked it . It had stiff competition a 58 coronet with a super red ram and a 61 caddy
All that there plus' and the negatives. But I really wanted a suicide door car never had one and I figured if I get board of it I could sell it or trade it later I got a very good deal on it I think . I think the cars worth around $12-13k we can just say I am paying less then $10000 for it

  9. Cool....the DeSoto had the big block [25" long] flathead six like the Chryslers had. If it's in good repair, I'd run it 'till it drops but keep it under 55 to make it live a long life. A little suspension drop and split manifold/dual exhaust and if it was mine it'd be done. Good cars as long as you don't over-wind the motor.
Richie Cunningham's dad would consider the red paint a little racy.

You know this is actually my first ever red car! I don't care for red much but I think it looks good on this car . And we'll it's already painted and I'm not taking perfectly good paint off the car. Air ride might be a nice upgrade sure would help my back out .

getting "back" to your roots? yep, install seat belts now - front & back - might try to install 3-point style. some type of lock for rear inside door handles - look at adding anything that you can to make more light show through red glass brake light lenses- hope that things progress quickly with your back

Never mind ! Guy was a dirt bag lieing sack of sheet! The rust free perfect paint no problems what so ever minus tires was a rot box with paint being a 2 on a scale of 10 and the bumpers were attached by coat hangers and trim was glued /taped on . Sparks shot from under the dash when I tried to start it then of course it wouldn't start! Guy said maybe no fuel I said you knew I was coming to see it 2 hour ride? Right? Yeah. You didn't think I wanted to poss drive it before I shelled out cash. No I say it good it good. Just like the no rust and perfect paint . I see no rust and it's got a show quality paint dude the rockers are missing and there's tons of over spray everywhere and paint missing the size of my head . The guy said I wasted his time! I told him he was lucky I had stuff to do later today or the visit to jail for knocking his teeth in would be well worth it!
    Freaking people!

Looking at that open left rear door picture, with the unpainted hinge surrounds and overspray, and the flaking paint / white around the frame, and a thin / missed coat of red paint at the bottom, had me thinking you were looking thru rose colored glasses.. Good thing you checked it out personally..

This is a bummer but be thankful you noticed it before you made the deal and that you had enough sense to look at it first. Forget about it and move on to the next one. There are a lot of bad people out there but I believe there are a lot more good people that aren't trying to screw you over. Keep your chip up son! Check out the HAMB market place. There are a good deal of nice cars there for sale.

  17. I don't know where all this "don't drive over 55" shit comes from. I promise we drove faster than that in the '50s. This was an upscale car! 55 in second.

  18. My 47 buicksuper. So I am hopping you passed on it? I don't sell a lot of my old cars but when I sell them I am honest as I can be with them to the new owner. Like the 56 buick station wagon I had and wasted 3 years on and a ton of $$$$. The guy that wanted it I told him it had major electrical problems{could of been fixed with a new wiring harness} He drove it all over town and still wanted it. I lost my shirt on the deal but I didn't want him to have the problems I did with it.{He was a lot younger than me too so he may of made out better with it then me.}lol. Bruce. 054.JPG

And a 73 deuce and a half I have to maintain here and there but it's mostly a driver! Plus my 64 300 k convertible but again it's done and it's a driver but it's so nice and a org survivor I don't like driving it much .

Properly installed front and rear seat belts are a fantastic addition. Great car. Best wishes.

Slow down. You're like a blind dog in a meat house. You don't have to buy the first one that comes along. That red DeSoto was a disaster waiting to happen to the next chump. And who knows what evil lurks under that flat black primered Cad. Sin in haste, repent in leisure. End of wise old sayings.

  27. 1927 graham it was nice looking when I got done with it but the electrical system was a nightmare. Heres what it looked like when I 1 st got it. The guy said the motor ran good{had a damn knock in it and said the trans was good. It gushed trans fluid all over the floor and he said it had brakes.}Drove it down the hill to my shop and found out the power brakes didn't work and took out part of my shops back wall.Bruce. 00o0o_82PxJSvNBPi_600x450-1.jpeg

I thought you were still doing a Buick. Any Buick parts left over you'd like to get rid of?
