I was just getting going on this build thread: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/detailed-build-thread-1937-ford-pickup.1067380/ ....and it's locked down? Mike sad... Can anybody out there with the power to do so let me know what happened? DM or whatever is fine...
You used one of those newfangled witchcraft electric welders didn't ya? Blasphemer! Yeah, I don't know- looked good but maybe someone got pissed about CAD, lasers and MII independent front..
For real?? This board has tons of mustangII, four-link, and airbag stuff....plus my truck is all full-fendered and everything....won't even be able to see the frame once done. I hope this was just an oops.
The HAMB is what it is.... I don't see anything traditional about the chassis you're building for the truck. It's a neat chassis, but not what this forum is about.
Looks like you are off to a great start but the build style you are working on (air bag suspended, MII based front end etc) is kinda verboten around here and most likely why the thread got locked. If it didn't exist by 1964, it most likely won't fly on the Hamb. This is a buggy sprung, multiple carburetor, points and condenser, bias ply tires kinda crowd. You can PM one of the mods to find out for sure though.
But then so does the project "lit up",by another renounced member has a custom laser cut chassis just like yours and has nothing but praise and applauds by the masses. Then again THAT chassis doesnt have any airbags. If you havent read that thread,I suggest you do,its one of the best on this site, very talented builder and one of the best looking trucks to start with. The hamb works in mysterious ways...
I'm sure I'm picking a losing fight here.....but I again defer to precedent... searching "mustangII" gets seven pages of results...four-link, 6 pages...laser cut 6 pages, airgbags gets 7 pages...never mind any derivatives of any of that...and yes... Jimmy's Lit Up project is one of my favorites also. Read that thread many times. I agree that my chassis isn't at the top of the list for preferred equipment here but I completely disagree that I'm using anything completely unacceptable to this bunch. I've posted several times about my project...specific elements, no big picture before...except one time when I had a question about riveting (thread here) where I provided a much more abreviated version of my build thread...mentioned the cad and lasers and everything. No warnings back then or anything. There's a whole lot of metalwork, lead work, hand-fab yet to come...pre-64 chassis? Nope. Final visual traditional style? I certainly think so...(ha...even if I do say so myself.) I even only tagged it project and didn't stuff it in to "Hot Rods" or "Customs" just to play that part safe... Still makes me sad. I was excited to share this project with the community that's helped me more than any other so far. I suppose I'll have more time to spend in the shop since I don't have a thread to update. If there's a change of heart by the powers that be, I'll happily post more.
Is there a way to know which one to message? I don't want to spam all of them, don't want to go straight to the top either.
Ok, I give. Apologies to any/all who took the time to read this and my build thread then felt it was a waste of their traditional time. I was directed to the rules by a friendly non-mod member. (Yes, I've read them before.) I believe the most pertinent to me is this: 5. As mentioned throughout these guidelines, the H.A.M.B. focuses on TRADITIONAL hot rods and customs. Posts pertaining to traditionally inspired, but not quite period perfect belong on the main forum found here. Please note that we don't focus on things such as modern fuel injected motors, big-inch wheels, frame clips, after market independent suspensions, etc... at all on the H.A.M.B.. As such, posts that stray away from the "traditional inspired" will be deleted. My frame certainly isn't period perfect. Agreed. I wouldn't say my suspension is aftermarket...since I made it...I will maintain my position that there's a significant presence of all the elements on my frame warmly being accepted elsewhere on the site, but hey...my interpretation of the rules isn't the one that gets enforced. I accept that. This is the last I'll say on the subject. Should I have any further content to contribute from my project when I get to the more traditional portions, I'll make sure the frame stays out of the pictures. Again, I'm sorry. (I have to be...it's the Canadian in me...) Have a great night all.
Glad you figured it out. I spent the day installing electronic gadgets in my old truck...I didn't post it here, because it's also not traditional.
Hey Muldo; If it's any consolation, awhile ago, Ryan created a sister site called Dogfight magazine. It's for anything that doesn't fit into the current HAMB definitions. Which, btw, if he were to really push it, would be 60-75% of what's on here. He does allow a lot of tolerance/tangents, but it does seem that if someone gets their panties in a wad, as a self-proclaimed-complaint-dept-police, & uses the report button, that gets noticed. As probably will this post... . Except: last time I was on Dogfight, it was in worse form than any old Bulliten(sp?) Board, virtually unreadable for me, & to top it off, somewhere in the aether, my log-in/info will not be recognized. I gave up, didn't want to bother Ryan too much about it. You could try posting over there. There are/were a lot of neat threads, but my computer doesn't like the site anymore - or vise/versa, IDK, but I'm going to assume it's my computer that's the issue. It also seems that very little goes on over there. Which is too bad. I do wish Ryan had named it HAMB-REDUX or HAMB-II & linked it to the HAMB, as in "not traditional stuff over here... " Maybe it've gotten more traffic/posting, IDK. His site(s), & it's way more complicated than I could/can do, so's I want to give him props for this site. Lots to learn here, & it's worth being here. So, anyways, thanks, Ryan. FWIW. Marcus...
I read your thread before it got nuked, and almost left a msg re your suspension. Sorry I didn't, you seem like a good fella. I think you've figured it out, no pics of the off topic suspension, etc, and your good. I certainly am impressed with your build and skills. Carry on Sir.
I liked your thread too and hoped it would sneak past. If you do thread elsewhere please post a link.
You have enough info and it seemed to be a good quality build, have you ever considered loading it in several episodes onto YouTube. It seems a waste to lose all that good work, albeit not quite right for here. I am sure a good number of keen active folks have been red buttoned at least once in their HAMB lives or had to give a 2nd thought to posting something that excited them... Good luck and hang in there.
You sir , are doing an excellent job! Will be very well put together. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Traditional maybe not, totally bitchin frame, heck yes! Killer build don't let the thread close stop ya
In all fairness I don't think anything mustang 2 should be on here. Afterall, it didn't even exist until '74 or '75.
Piss + Wind = Wet Shoes. Try and think of the HAMB like your significant other: it doesn't have to make sense.
If you check the date on the threads you mention you will see in most cases that they are old or locked. You mention that you read the rules, but posted anyway? It's wrong to speed, yet people do it anyway, sometimes you get a ticket or thread deleted. Looked like you were doing a nice job on the truck.
If the rest of your build is along the traditional vein just don't post about the suspension and chassis details and it will usually be fine.
Was just going to post exactly what K13 said. Skip past the more modern stuff and post on the old timey stuff. That's what is done and accepted. Yeah we see stuff in the background but if you don't focus on it, neither will the H.A.M.B. Patrol. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Dirty old man: I believe it was Ronnie Reagan who said that. Cool truck, great fab ability's...just not HAMB friendly underneath.
Hay, your like me in that it stings just a bit to accept some rules. I like the rules here enough to stick to them. My 51 Avitar is like your Truck. Check it out and tell me what's not traditional. White Tuck-n-Roll, Stock looking dash right down to the factory shifter. Hub Caps, white walls and live Lake Plugs. Sadly I can't share with anyone what's behind the Dash, under the Hood, or what the wheels are bolted to. Like your Truck I hand built it all right here in my Home shop. Now as I remember it way back when I was growing up in my Dads house I didn't like a lot of his rules also however it was Home much like the H.A.M.B. is so we adjust. It's still the best darn web sight for my taste and at a very small price to pay. Enjoy your stay. The Wizzard
It is times like this that does make you wonder about the wisdom of shutting some threads showing great initiative and skills which in themselves are a benefit to many new and inexperienced members who I am sure would both benefit and be motivated by what they see. More power to you and yes your skills are impressive. Keep up the good work...
My personal taste is traditional styled cars and trucks. I do not care what is under the sheet metal as long as it is not seen. If someone puts independent suspension on a fenderless roadster it just shows me they don't get it. If they put it under a full size truck and you have to get down under it to tell who cares? But this is Ryan's site and he gets to draw the line, and since the lines he has drawn means this is the best site for traditional rods I hope he keeps doing what he does. Where else will you find the depth of information on traditional tech or style?
Rules are rules. The moderators have the power to be sure that all posts are consistent with those rules. So anyone and everyone who breaks the rules should be prepared to have their postings or pictures or descriptions of their work scrutinized as to its acceptability to the moderators. As mentioned above, hide your engine, hide your tranny, hide your suspension, hide your frame, and most of all don't post anything that may show your ingenuity. Keep it simple. Just go to the junk yard and find parts that were made at the factory, wash them off, and bolt them to your car and everybody will be happy! See how easy it is to keep it traditional?
