id guess that the rear took a hit at one point.. (based on those cracks) Id suggest checking square again (if you haven't before) any competent welder should be able to address that for you.

Cool build. "One piece at a time." I'm living that now with my build. It's a humbling experience and a test of patience. Keep going, man.

Keep at it. One thing on paint, pick a color now and start prepping and shooting the edges of all the panels and jams as it goes together. You can make a lot happen with a harbor freight gun and a decent single stage enamel.

Id pay an industrial blaster to do the frame. How many wire wheels would it take.

The frame needs checked for square and level, I'd plate those tears on the backside as well as cut out the deformed metal and replace it.

I was thinking the same thing too, is there any place out there that does boxing plates for these frames?

Sorry, looking at it again, you cant get to the back. Looks like its cracked top and bottom. Get it all squared up and burn it in, then plate all 4 sides with flat plate. Its not "great" but it can be repaired and strong.

Do you have a concrete slab or driveway to work on for the frame. Set up stands and level the stands, then put the frame on and level the frame. Cross measure from a known spot on the frame on each side. If its twisted, not sure what you have to tweek it back..

No cement slab to work on this project is a true shade tree build.

I am working on offering partial boxing plates, when available, they will be c.n.c. plasma cut.. I need plates for my cars.. and would make them available at a very reasonable rate (when ready)

Youll figure it out. Level is, level to the world, just get it all shimmed up. Cross / diagonal tells you a lot if the rear is just cracked or tweeked.

I took out the dash board today, and cleaned some of the **** off it and found some candy apple red paint and the instrument cluster was filled with lead. I'm guessing that this may have been an older custom/hot rod. IMG_20170609_150700155.jpg IMG_20170609_174259460.jpg

That's really interesting to see. I have a'48 Mercury and always wondered if I couldn't just slide the front crossmember back and all the other stock front suspension with it so I could put a Phord front end on it.

Got a little work done today. Cut the bottom of the x member cut off. Found a place near by that, for a $5 day p***, will let you their machinery, and spent most of the day there hacking this part up. IMG_20170627_135033863_HDR.jpg IMG_20170627_164935714.jpg IMG_20170627_173733142.jpg

How are you fixed for a backlight (rear window)? I have a very good one, with a fresh gasket. Fair price. PM me if you are interested.

Its just metal, cut, bend, weld and if it looks bad cut it out and do it again, you'll get there.

Well I guess it could have been worse. We had a nasty thunder storm last night, with 50-60 mph winds by our house 90 mph winds out by lake Michigan. The only branch to hit anything hit the roof of my coupe putting a nice dent in it. IMG_20170707_080448212.jpg IMG_20170707_080648878_HDR.jpg

Cut a 4x4 or 2x4 with a chainsaw to the general shape of the roof. Put it inside and lift it up with the cherry picker to push that roof up starting and thr ends. Thats what i did to get the right curve when i welded the rear window back on my car!

I found a steel supply place in town that just bought a new cnc plasma cutter. So I got the ol tape out and fired up the CAD, and I think I got it pretty close. Now I need to get all my s**** metal and practice my welding IMG_20170714_181820677_HDR.jpg IMG_20170717_190340763.jpg

    Topher,

I was looking in the cl***ifieds and saw this ad for a frame that a HAMBer named woodyTom has for sale for $20 bucks...yeah, I said $20 bucks: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/46-48-ford-frame-almost-free.1070996/

It looks like woodyTom is in Canton, Michigan. I'm not sure where that is in relation to where you're located, but for $20 for a frame it would be worth driving to pick it up.

Good luck and let us know if it works out for you.
