Hey guys,I'm putting a 59a in a 30 model a with a 32 frame and trying to get the pedals to work the clutch.My question is does anyone have any idea how far the throw out bearing rotational shaft rotates to make the throw out bearing go from retracted to out to work the clutch?I was trying to keep the pedal(stock) to stay in the car but I don't know if I have enough throw or travel to make the clutch work.Hope this isn't tooo confusing,thanks.
If your overall linkage ratio is around 10.5-11:1, pedal free play will be close to 1" when the linkage is adjusted for .100" or so T/O bearing clearance fully retracted. Another 4" of pedal movement should disengage the clutch, leaving about 1" in reserve. Make sure the clutch disc to pressure plate clearance is checked, (usually about .030"-.040" max) when the pedal is fully depressed, depending on clutch design (B&B, Long or diaphragm) and adjust linkage accordingly.
I'm figuring I have travel in the four to six in range,I'd have to measure the pedals to see the ratio,there stock model A I believe,I'm really interested with some one with a hogshead to tell me about what degree the equalizer shaft rotates from pedals at rest to clutch engaged,30Degrees 90 degrees etc.Clutch wiil probably be a s10 or astro van diaphragm type.
My setup as described above is what I run on my '32, with '34 pedals (very similar to '32) and a '51 Merc bell housing, with the same rotating clutch release shaft as a "hogs head". Never measured the actual degrees of rotation, but the actual T/O movement should be about 1/2". The overall ratio is what's important.
