Cool. Mitchell mentioned to me that he lifted the steering column up so a bigger person could fit behind the wheel. I'm guessing that's why it came out of the car.

Robert "Bob" Wilson is a Dallas fixture in hot rod building and industrial welding and fabrication work. Bob lives in Flower Mound which is in the Dallas metroplex. You know of Bob by the early finned and also Lincoln backing plates and brakes that he makes. Bob is a member of the recreated Chaparrals club since 2003. It was Bob's idea to restart the club. If you have any Bob Wilson stories would love to hear them.

I am proud to have the first pair of Lincoln backing plates that went on a car. Bob helped me with other things when I was building my roadster back in 2002. All custom.

Yes. Authentic down to the stamp. I'm not sure how long he used the stamp. Cool.

I saw this recreation of Scorpion II at Garlits museum in Ocala a couple weeks ago. It's nicely done and the display was a nice tribute to Bobby.

  14. Karl,,I don't think there s any additional info that I can add that hasn't already been said.Karl if you get the chance to visit with Bobbys wife at their home, you would be amazed at Bobbys talents besides drag Racing,,He was a TRUE craftsman..his home shows off his talents. You'll love the Gabezo he built
in the back yard, not to mention the interior of the house.

I'm pretty sure I posted some more photo of it in the vintage or drag cars in motion thread but searched and can't find them now. If you want them badly a hand search backwards in those threads should find them. I think it was in the last month or so. good luck LOL

I posted a bunch more of the later version in the vintage thread.

Bobby Langley's Scorpion at Willow Run Raceway, Oklahoma City, This was the last race that Scorpion V ran. It was sold and Scorpion VI put into service at the next race. That is the Scorpion VI scoop on the car.

I ran across these photos of Buddy Boren's channeled deuce roadster on Facebook, and thought they would be a good addition to this thread.

Photos are from Connell Miller, and I believe this is 1957 in Dallas.

Anymore information about Buddy Boren? This is the first time I have seen a picture of his roadster.

I have some pictures to post that solve a mystery to me. It didn't seem like their were any pictures showing Custom Automotive in the early days. I understand it was on Pearl street from 1948 to ? Now there are thanks to Elrod and the picture he posted.
    image.jpg
There is a sign in this photo stating that this is custom automotive. The contrast in the photo is washed out because there was snow on the ground. This picture was taken at the same time as a series of pictures that I will post (repost). The date of the pictures is in late January or early February 1951. Charlie was on the way to a new event at the Daytona Beach. Several cars from California met up with Charlie.

These are the photos that Jim Overbey had. They were taken at the same time. They give a good idea of the meager starting of Custom Automotive.

  27. Karl, We worked on Buddys roadster back in the late 50s when I was at Custom..Buddy was a Dallas rich kid.Lived out on Beverly dr,,Had an older brother named Jim..His dad was in the oil business with offices in the old Highland Park shopping center,,Buddy later brought the first road races to be held in the streets of Dallas.
I've often wondered what happened to the roadster.

This was planned to be a significant event at Daytona Beach. This photo is taken to what I believe is the garage area of Custom Automotive. Notice Charlies Full Fendered 32 to the left of the picture. It matches the picture that Elrod posted earlier.

AdamsDaytonaBeach.jpg More of the photos. This is Charlie's hiboy. He did a lot of work to it to get it ready for Daytona. It looks really different from other pictures of his race car but I believe it is the same car.
