Gen 001 Norm Olson Special Milwaukee Miller Meet A630 040.jpg Here's a photo of the Norm Olson Special taken last weekend at the "Millers at Milwaukee" meet. The car ran on Friday but developed some kind of engine trouble and never got back on the track on Saturday although they continued to work on it. I spoke with the owner and he surprised me when he said that the frame on the car was based on that of a Maserati 8CTF. Eddie Zalucki built the car in Detroit and if he did copy the frame I wonder just which Maserati he used as a model. The car had been in Europe for decades before coming back to the States in the late 1990s and had apparently been raced in vintage events prior to that. As it sits right now the car appeared to have a later injected 255 Offy in it as well as a GM/Borg Warner Super T10 4 speed transmission. The car had several dings and dents showing from its racing days but is still a rather unique looking race car. Eddie Zalucki would be proud to know that the car is still being run on racetracks some 70 years after he built it.

Thanks SO much for posting this! I got an old issue of Rod & Custom from November 1964 when I was a kid and saved this letter from it:
    39plymouth.jpg
I always wanted to know how it looked from the front with the IH truck headlights. Note he mentions that the grille was "custom built studded with chrome bullets", but your photo shows it with what looks like a '54 Plymouth grille. Also note it's wearing '59 Dodge Royal Lancer wheelcovers here.
    Thanks again D88!

Advice to the photographer in the Pikes Peak photo, "Position is everything". A young lady (in the trade) gave me that advice once, cost me $100...
