The N & B Special, driver John Keene from Mass. This car was an absolute monster- 377 Chev, weber carbs...it was destroyed by following owner Tony Ripa when someone cut him off on the straight at Bridgehampton. His comment: "I set the height record there, flying over the control tower"

Walla Walla, WA. Antique Ford stops at Teague Motor Company on June 21 1959 on its re-tracing of the route of a cross-country race won by a similar model in 1909 that took 22 days. Behind the car in the first picture is the 50 millionth Ford produced since then. Old number 2 here actually only drove about 200 miles on this trip while riding inside a truck most of the time. Carl Renner, GM Special Body Development Studio, 1953. Renner worked as an animator for Walt Disney Studios during the mid 1940s but preferred being a car designer. At GM in the early 1950s, Renner was given his own studio that only he and Harley Earl, GM’s Vice President and head of design, had access to. In this studio many of GM’s Motorama 1950s show cars were developed.

 

Del Coates, Studebaker Golden Hawk 1957. Coates proposed this update for the Golden Hawk 1959 model year. The 1957 Golden Hawk measured by performance was faster going from 0-60 mph and in the quarter mile than the Chrysler 300B, Chevrolet Corvette or Ford Thunderbird. Many consider the Golden Hawk a precursor to the muscle cars of the 1960s.

That first car looks like where the Dodge guys got 1972 the Challenger grille from.

 

Geez, did Plymouth steal this design for their '61 Fury?
