So I was hacking away at the rotted out exhaust on the Tempest today, realizing that it's hosed from the heat riser all the way to the end...and when I went to push myself out from under the car, I had an idea: What's the thoughts on external "side pipes" on a sedan? Granted I've seen the flashy chrome ford cobra junk...but that wouldn't fly for my little rat rod (since it's all about the primer and I'd only have one pipe off the passenger side). I was thinking a glasspack, externally mounted covered in high-temp black. Just the basics of hardware and a plain angled tip to keep gasses away from the body. Nothing flashy, but somthing somewhat loud, offensive, and a bit scary lookin'. Thoughts? Criticisim? Beratements? Anyone else do this? Jarrod akak "Fullmetal" aka "Jar Jar" aka me
Heck, you could just flip the manifolds, put some holes in the hood and run demo derby stacks. I bet they would look just as nice...
er....that might be a little TOO crazy! But interesting nontheless... Jarrodk aka "Fullmetal" aka "Jar Jar" aka me
That's traditional! Must be, I did it years ago, and I'm thinking my 39 will be like that this summer.... Gene
Outside exhausts are nice if you live alone no one ever rides with you and you have no wife/girlfriend, kids etc. If you do have some of the above , outside exhausts can burn them getting in and out . I got burned on side pipes on a 63 Vette once it took almost a year to heal. IT'S A STUPID IDEA My two cents
I ran the chrome headers on my 1970 t-bucket it pissed me off when all those oily little finger prints turned blue and impossible to clean(it was a beater that I drove 12 months a year and never cleaned the chrome or brass) but I always felt like I received a trophy when someone left burnt flesh on a hot header
