Technical Guess what, it wasn't all vapor lock...

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by '49 Ford Coupe, Jul 14, 2017.

  1. If you had followed my initial analysis on my website, the fact that I had VAPOR LOCK was clear and obvious (zero fuel in the carb after sitting, no fuel in the squirters, etc.), so the path of correcting that situation, not to mention the hundreds of posts here and on other forums regarding vapor lock was STILL correct. Not a matter of CHASING GHOSTS, as you put it.

The fact that I also had an ignition problem did no reveal itself until after I had solved the vapor lock issue. Reasonable analysis with the use of an adjustable spark tester to MEASURE the distance that the spark would throw is not /was not a matter of CHASING GHOSTS, nor guessing at what could be wrong.

By the way, the use in the English language of my word SYMPTOM, is very different from your choice of the word CONDITION; i.e. - (from Wikipedia, medical) - "A slightly different definition views signs as any indication of a medical condition that can be objectively observed (i.e., by someone other than the patient), whereas a symptom is merely any manifestation of a condition that is apparent to the patient (i.e., something consciously affecting the patient)."

So, a symptom is a manifestation of one's INDICATION of a CONDITION. Yes, vapor lock is a CONDITION, and ignition failure is a CONDITION, but both exhibited the SAME SYMPTOMS. THAT is what I said (no start after a hot soak).

A HEADACHE is a SYMPTOM which could be due to MULTIPLE CAUSES, such as either a brain tumor (vapor lock) or too much vodka the following morning (ignition failure), which are mutually exclusive, but the CONDITION that causes a headache is not a SYMPTOM.

    Brush up on your English.

Oh, Ohio.... I understand now.... ahahhaha

When I first had my 350 in my 49 ford . If I turned it off when hot to put gas in it would not start. Had to let it sit for awhile to cool down. Believe it or not A very wise car informed friend said. "Take the spring out of the selinoid and replace it with a big block spring". Woah I know what your thinking. Went to chevrolet told them I wanted a spring for a big block selinoid . He went and got one (more coils in the spring) Replaced it , never had it not start again. Believe it or not the motor is a 1974 - 350
